Summer time and the living’s easy

” – "Doin’ Time," Sublime

Yes Sublime, the living is substantially easier. No school, no responsibilities, no alarms, no worries… freedom

(word to Beyonce), but when you’re not out enjoying the summer sun, you might encounter a mild case of the summer slump.

Summer Slump: [suhm-er sluhmp] noun. a disorder in which one has absolutely no motivation or reason to get out of bed and be productive.

Trust me, I’ve been there. If you are at risk or are currently in mid slump, here are 10 ideas and activities that you can try to make yourself feel a little more productive even if you are going to be in bed all day.

1. Read a good book.

Read a book that you’ve picked out and are actually excited to read, because it’s such a different experience as oppose to being forced to read a book for a class. Not only does reading help relax your mind, but it’s also a perfect activity to do from the comfort of your own bed.

2. Watch a Netflix documentary.

Okay I know, nothing productive ever happens once you type 'N-e-t-f-' into your web browser but if you’re going to go down that slope, at least attempt to learn a thing or two while you’re at it. There's so many interesting and educational documentaries on Netflix based on anything and everything! Surely you'll find one that sparks your interest!

3. Get all caught up on the latest news stories.

If lately you’ve been feeling out of the loop with what's going on in the world, now is a perfect time to look up all the top stories you might have missed on your feed. It's important to stay aware of what's going on in the world especially with today's recent tragedies.

4. Perfect your summer music playlist.

There’s nothing more ‘unproductively productive’ than spending hours making sure you have the most lit playlist ready for the next time you're passed the aux cord.

5. Bed exercises?

This is a real thing, I promise. There are exercises that you can do while laying on your bed that actually work! Look them up!

6. Online shop 'til ya drop!

Remember that Morphe eyeshadow palette that you've been dying to get but just didn't have the time to go shopping? Buy it online! But if you want to be a little more productive (and less selfish), it's never to early to start buying Christmas presents.

7. Make a board on Pinterest of recipes you want to try.

Not today obviously but you know, someday when you get the chance... and the motivation.

8. Use your adult coloring book.

And if you don't have one, what are you doing? There's literally no better way of relieving stress and feeling like a kid again than drowning yourself in a bed of sharpies, crayons, and colored pencils. Remember to stay in the lines!

9. Invite your friends over to do... well nothing.

If they're real friends, they won't hesitate. Having people around you who are also doing nothing makes you feel less crappy about yourself, and that's what friends are for.

10. Lastly, make a list of goals for the rest of the summer or places you want to go and once you’re out of the slump, actually make an effort to get up and go!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
