We’ve all done it a few times. Whether it’s accidentally rambling or telling too many details, everyone has realized they are oversharing. A few of us, however, tend to overshare all the time. Many people might think of this as a problem, but those of us who live up to our title can tell you it’s the best way to be.
You tell people the same stories repeatedly
You also probably don't realize it until you've finished the story and they let you know -- depends on how polite they're feeling. But who cares? Obviously you love this story!
You’ve told more than a few strangers things they did not need to hear
Then you undergo that moment of “Um… I mean, I just, never mind.” You feel awkward, they feel awkward, everyone has a dance party.
Once you get uncomfortable, the rambling doesn't stop.
Then everyone gets uncomfortable until you decide to walk away... But hey, maybe they just think you're social!
You relate to "Mean Girls" on a spiritual level when it comes to word vomit
PSA: avoid the gossip/bad talk aspect of it, but oversharers have a tendency to say things other people probably just don't care about. Oops, did I just say that?
You don't mind other oversharers
Probably because you're going to give them the same level of detail in a conversation, but, whatevs.
Your friends know more about you than you know about them
At least at the beginning, anyway. This is especially true for people you probably shouldn't be talking to... including coworkers, bosses, professors, etc. Plus, by the time you stop talking, they're typically just staring at you.
You don’t need a therapist because you tell everybody about your problems
Which, honestly, isn’t a bad thing. Being able to talk about things means you're comfortable with your surroundings. Go you!
You consider yourself an open book
But you kind of are… celebrate it!
People feel comfortable talking to you about things
Since oversharers give so much of themselves to people, a lot of people, even quieter ones, will open up around oversharers and give themselves right back. It’s unintentional, but it’s damn effective in getting to know a person.
You talk about being an oversharer
OK, maybe that one’s just me, but you probably also accept it, acknowledge it, and openly discuss how much you love talking to people!
Oversharers get a bad rep. But deep down, we all know if it wasn't for the oversharers, the world would be way more boring. Own it! Talk your heart out, people!
