Dragging yourself to Club Morris is always a struggle when you know that you're going to be spending the next few hours of your life drowning in schoolwork. It's even more strenuous knowing you'll be surrounded by overachievers doing work at what seems like light speed. So when you're having one of those days where you really need to get work done, but you can afford a few distractions, check out these study locations at UD to find your perfect balance of work and procrastination:
1. Central Perk
Not only does Central Perk have amazing sandwiches and smoothies, it also has the perfect amount of distractions. The name itself is a distraction. You can take a 20-minute "pre studying break" by fantasizing what your life would be like if you were at the "real" Central Perk in NY and you were part of the "Friends" cast.
2. The Scrounge
The Scrounge in Perkins can fit all of your studying needs. If you decide you really need to crack down, you can put head phones in and get your study grind on. However, The Scrounge also has the perfect amount of distractions between all of the people, the big screen TV, and of course, Dunkin. "Looks like I just finished my third coffee, let me take a study break and go stand in the Dunkin's line for another 30 minutes to get a fourth."
3. First Floor of Club Morris
I know, the library is daunting. But if you stay on the first floor of Morris, you can procrastinate as much as you like while also being proud you actually made it to the library! Avoid the Reading Room and Periodicals Room, but if you stick around the printing station, you can distract yourself for hours just by playing around with one of those cool chairs alone.
4. Brew Haha Porch
Brew Haha's porch is a hidden gem of UD. If you go upstairs above Grottos, Brew HaHa is a cute little cafe perfect for your fake studying needs. Even better, they have a porch in the back of the shop you can sit on and study. You can get your work done while listening and living vicariously through people enjoying happy hour on Grotto's outside deck. Perfect motivation to get your work done fast so you can join them!
Ah, Starbucks. Possibly one of the most known fake studying spots. Sure, it's a great place to be productive, but it's also a great place to stare at the menu for 30 minutes trying to decide what new fall drink you want to try and eavesdropping on the conversation of the couple sitting next to you.
6. The Green
When it's nice out, The Green is not only one of the best spots to fake study, but also one of the most beautiful. It's right in the middle of all the campus action. Pick a nice, soft spot on the grass right in the middle of the lawn and for every page you read, reward yourself with five minutes of people watching.
7. Smith Stair Case
When you're blessed enough to be let out of class early and you're closer to West Campus, Smith stair case is a great place to be "productive" before waiting for your next class to start. You could procrastinate by appreciating the smells of Starbucks right next to it, of the ridiculously long line of people waiting to get their drinks, or even spend ten minutes trying to get yourself comfortable on the step.
8. The Little Bob
The couches right in the entrance of the gym are another great fake studying location. You're situated directly in front of giant flat screen TV, so you can spend hours on end watching ESPN. Maybe you'll even be so desperate for a study distraction you'll actually be healthy and procrastinate by working out!
9. Einstein's
The long line of Einstein's on the first floor of ISE Lab is a prime fake studying spot. Waste 30+ minutes waiting in the line to get your food, roam around the tables for a few minutes until you realize they're all occupied, and then finally decide to move over to the couches and start "studying," or eating your bagel really, really slowly.
10. Your Bed
This is your permission to do work in your bed. You'll save time by not walking somewhere to get your work done, so use that saved 20 minutes to scroll through Instagram for the fourth time or take a quick (two-hour) power nap.
