The 10 Phases You'll Go Through When You Get Home For The Summer

It's what we spend our last few weeks of the school year counting down to. What do we do now that we're actually home?

Coming home for the summer is great at first. We all spend our last few weeks of school counting down the days until we can finally pack up our cars and make that drive home, because at that point, everyone is sick of classes, finals, and dining hall food. But what actually happens when you do get home? Because after those first few days, we all realize how much time we have left until we're back on the campus we love. Here's some of the phases we all go through when we finally get home for the summer.

1. Sleeping. Oh, and more sleeping.

After spending months on that tiny dorm bed and a long sleepless finals week, nothing is more exciting than curling up and sleeping forever in the comfort of your own bed at home.

2. Eating all your favorite foods that you missed at school.

We all miss our parent's food and our favorites restaurants at home. Being welcomed back with all your favorite dishes is better than chicken nugget day in the dining hall.

3. Reuniting with all your best friends.

They're the people you just spent the whole school year missing and getting back into the old routine with your original squad is one of the best feelings.

4. Netflix. So. Much. Netflix.

Somewhere between napping and hanging out with your friends, you'll find yourself watching a ridiculous amount of Netflix. Nothing quite like watching Grey's Anatomy all the way through for the third time.

5. Work, work, work.

Eventually, your parents are gonna remind you that the whole Netflix and napping thing isn't gonna cut it. That's when it's time to go out and find that summer job so you have money for Domino's in the fall.

6. Adjusting to your parent's rules again.

Ah yes. The familiar sound of parental nagging. As much as you missed them while you were gone, it's definitely hard and not very fun to adjust to the fact that you're back at home with your parents and you have to go by their rules. It can even make you miss living in a dorm when you got to decide when to clean your room. Don't worry parents, we know you nag because you love us.

8. Missing your best friends from school.

When you go away to college, you meet the best people you'll ever know. Being away from them is probably the hardest part of coming home for the summer. Chances are, the people you're missing like crazy are hours away, and not just a short walk away like they were at school. Keeping up with them through snapchats and texts is fun, but it's not the same.

9. You'll start to miss your school.

Eventually, you're even gonna start to miss campus and all that surrounds it. You'll start to miss your favorite late night pizza place, the coffee shops on Main Street, and everything about the place you've grown to love over the last year. You might even miss some of your classes or professors.

10. Counting down the days until you return.

You'll start to get excited about the new year and new classes, setting up your new dorm room, and reuniting with all your friends. So, you'll spend the rest of the summer patiently counting down the days until you return to campus.

Being home for the summer is great, but we've all found a new home at school, and if you're anything like me, you can't wait to get back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
