Looking for a feel-good chick flick for your girls night in? Want to reminisce about your favorite movies from when you were a pre-teen? Here are 10 movies that will have you wishing you could go back to the mid-2000s.
10. Freaky Friday (2003)
This is not the last time you will see Lindsay Lohan on this list, because she basically ruled our childhoods. This movie hilariously tells the story of Anna (Lohan) and her mom (Jamie Lee Curtis) switching bodies against their will to learn a lesson about understanding each other. Both characters are sympathetic and relatable, and Chad Michael Murray as Anna's love interest makes it even better.
9. John Tucker Must Die (2006)
Speaking of cute guys, this movie was everything when I was in middle school. Between all of John Tucker's (Jesse Metcalfe) girlfriends, sweet and innocent Kate (Brittany Snow), overachiever Carrie (Arielle Kebbel), popular cheerleader Heather (Ashanti), and promiscuous vegan Beth (Sophie Bush), everyone has someone to root for. Don't try to deny that this movie inspired you to fantasize about getting even with your own John Tucker when you were 12.
8. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)
This movie was memorable because of the girls' enviable friendships and each of their separate intriguing lives. In short, it made you feel so many feels. Bridget (Blake Lively) gets intimate with the hot, older counselor at soccer camp, Carmen (America Ferrera) feels inferior to her dad's seemingly perfect new family, Lena (Alexis Bledel) also has an off-limits love affair with a foreign guy, and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn) grows close to a girl who is dying of cancer. At the same time, they are all sharing a pair of jeans that magically fits them all, inspiring BFFs all over America to try to find something special to mail around when they were apart for the summer.
7. Now and Then (1995)
This coming-of-age film starring Christina Ricci, Rosie O'Donnell, Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Gaby Hoffmann, Demi Moore, Ashleigh Aston Moore, and Rita Wilson was full of funny lines and sweet emotion. One of the most memorable dialogue exchanges is when Teeny (Birch) asks Chrissy (Aston Moore), "Have you ever been french kissed?" to which she earnestly replies, "Are you kidding? I don't want to get pregnant!" This is the perfect movie for girl friends resisting growing up.
6. She's the Man (2006)
Who didn't love Amanda Bynes in the She's the Man and What a Girl Wants era? She was hilarious as Viola pretending to be her brother, Sebastian, at boarding school with Duke (Channing Tatum!). Viola is such a cool girl, and nothing beats her getting Duke to put a tampon up his nose.
5. Disney Channel Original Movies (1998-2006)
Your friends and you will love to reminisce over classic DCOMs, from Halloweentown (1998), Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (1999), and Cadet Kelly (2002) to Twitches (2005) and High School Musical (2006). They made 66 movies in between 1998 and 2006, and if you went through elementary school in this time period, you've probably seen all of them.
4. Bring It On (2000)
I can still recite every line from Bring It On. This movie is so weird in all the right ways. Every character, like Torrance (Kirsten Dunst), Missy (Eliza Dushku), Cliff (Jesse Bradford), and Aaron (Richard Hillman), is quirky and cringe-worthy at the same time. Some memorable moments include the opening cheer routine ("I'm still.Big.Red."), the tryouts ("Isn't this the audition for Pippin?"), and Sparky Polastri (Ian Roberts) meeting the Toros for the first time ("These are not spirit fingers. These are spirit fingers").
3. Legally Blonde (2001)
Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) made being in a sorority and going to Harvard Law School both look so cool. It is impossible to not feel happy while watching this comedy about a girl following her heart and discovering her worth.
2. The Parent Trap (1998)
This movie had every little girl dreaming of meeting her long-lost twin/best friend at sleepaway camp. While your friends and you watch Hallie and Annie (both played by Lindsay Lohan) fence, play poker, live in isolation, pierce ears, do secret handshakes with Annie's butler, hangout with their awesome parents, and prank Meredith, you can debate over which twin you like better.
1. Mean Girls (2004)
I was hesitant to put this movie on the list because there is no way you haven't seen it since you were a pre-teen, but once it made it onto the list, it had to get the number 1 spot. It is the most quotable movie ever and still funny the 50th time around. "She doesn't even go here!"
