Movies are a staple of modern entertainment and have been for decades. One thing hat happens with an influx of social media and technology is that we hear all these things about new and upcoming movies, as well as word of mouth. There have been some movie ventures lately that were hyped up so much that there is no room for more excitement and once you see the movie, you're just disappointed.
1. Sausage Party
This was a sad one. Sausage Party was a ten year adventure for Seth Rogan to get made and the whole world was excited to see the first animated R-rated movie. Unfortunately, the trailer shows the funniest parts of this movie, and it tries to be funny by being disgusting, and fails.
2. Suicide Squad
This was DC's shot at "Avengers" success and they blew it. There were too many characters crammed into one movie, and the advertising didn't supplement the characters importance in the film. Also, I think Ben Affleck as Batman has already run its course.
3. Batman vs. Superman*
Speaking of Ben Affleck, this was another superhero movie that was extremely hyped up and just didn't follow through. It was enough introducing the world to a non-Christian-Bale Batman, but the inaction of this movie made it even harder to get used to.
4. Zoolander 2
This is a little bit harder to judge because on the basis of the Zoolander franchise, in that it's supposed to be really stupid. But this took a route similar to Anchorman 2, where they tried to cram too much from the first movie into the second, as well as adding a lot of crowd-pleasing characters and plot points in order to appeal to the decade and a half of missed time.
5. Fantastic Four
Lovers of the original from a few years ago were extremely disappointed with this remake, mostly because it didn't appeal to the same audience as the original. It tried to make the group hip and modern but left out the wisdom of the characters in the original movie. It's sad to see decent actors go down with a bad film like this.
6. Transformers 3 and 4
Getting scathing reviews from pretty much all over, these two movies both proved that the Shia LeBouf era of Transformers is over. At least until the next one comes out.
7. The Boss
As someone who is a big Melissa McCarthy fan, this one hurt. I was expecting great things from this movie, but although it was pretty funny, didn't allow Melissa to stray from her usual character strains and didn't offer anything we haven't seen before, only in a new context.
8. Spiderman III
Another trilogy ruined by the third movie. The first two times we saw Toby McGuire as Spiderman, it was what you imagined it to be. But as it usually goes, they tried to do too much at one time, and took away the purity of the Spiderman franchise.
9. Grease 2
Oh boy, was this bad. This is just unspeakable.
10. Tomorrowland
This was a mysterious new-age movie was supposed to inspire dreamers and the like to think big and wonder about what is out there, but failed to convince people that it was one of those movies. George Clooney was also there.
There are obviously many movies that hav been hyped up a lot and then turned out to disappoint, but these are some from recent times as well as classic disappointments that need to be talked about.
* You're welcome.
