10 Life Lessons From Sex and The City

Sex and the City still is a commonly talked about show because of all of the help and entertainment it has brought to women everywhere. Here are a couple of lessons it has taught us.

Raise those cosmos up high girls: "Here's to the guys who love us, the losers who lost us, and the lucky bastards that get to meet us"-Sex and the City.

1. Be wise with your finances.

:

Carrie taught us that its best to have your money right where you can see it...in your closet. Sometimes living on a budget causes us to make difficult choices, but after watching a few episodes of Sex and the City, you'd be willing to sacrifice food and groceries for clothes. After all we know, fashion is painful. This lesson is not be taken as something irresponsible, but to remember to treat yourself every once in a while. You deserve it.

2. Fall in love with being single.

Samantha Jones, PR guru, takes the gold medal for being the most fabulous single woman in New York City. She never judges anyone and proves to women everywhere that you can have fun without having a boyfriend. We all wish we could have the never fading confidence that Samantha had on the show. She taught us that you can't be right for someone else if you're not right for yourself.

3. Don't Over Think Things.

We all know how women can't help but take every little thing said or done and analyze the hell out of it. Not only is this extremely exhausting, but also it's pointless. The women of Sex and the City were no better than any other woman. They were constantly seeking advice on relationships and men, but they show us how sometimes its best to just leave it be. What was said and done can't be change, all you can do is move on.

4. What you think you don't want, may be exactly what you need.

Charlotte and Harry, Steve and Miranda? Sometimes the people we can't see ourselves with are exactly who we should be with. It doesn't matter what we believe, maybe opposites can attract or soul mates do exist, but we learned from Sex and the City that whatever it ends up being, it should work. Being happy is the ultimate goal, no matter who its with. We should be with the ones we love and want to be with regardless of the past, appearances, or opinions of others.

5. Research what your dealing with.

As the saying goes: Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. We have no idea what the other is thinking. It's not a bad idea to take our experiences with dating and learn something from it. Carrie Bradshaw was able to make a career out of asking questions and researching men on dating, love and sex. Next time you're out doing a little research, feel free to share your findings with the rest of us.

6. If you fall, pick yourself back up.

Nothing feels worse than messing up. When Carrie fell during a fashion show she was invited to participate in, we all gasp of embarrassment for her. But Carrie got right back up and continued her walk, embracing her identity as a normal person who makes mistakes. All the girls on the show display their ability to pick themselves up after many break ups, awkward first dates, and life struggles. We need to be strong to be able to move on and be happy.

7. Theres nothing a gay best friend can't fix.

Keep calm and shop on, your gay BFF is here. We all dream of having "the best of both worlds" friend in our lives. One that can gossip with the best of us and perhaps give us insight on men. Regardless Stanford and Anthony were great additions in the girls lives, knowing all the hot spots and supporting them in everything they do. Just another reason why the show was so fabulous.

8. Never settle for anything.

Many of the failed relationships on the show showed us to never settle for anything less than happiness. Not only in our relationships, but also in every aspect of our lives. These women were all successful in their careers as well, they never settled from taking themselves to the top. When it comes to love, these girls also knew not to be walked over and searched for the love they deserved.

9. You can never be alone if you have your friends.

The girls showed us that no matter how much you worry about men, work or money, as long as you have your friends, you are safe. What helps us get through all of our struggles is the support of the ones you love us. Who needs a soulmate when you've got your BFFs.

10. Be fabulous: Love yourself.

Being true to yourself and finding someone who loves you for you is the most important lesson Sex and the City could teach its viewers. Carrie once said, "the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
