1. Thank you for teaching me how to “Toughen Up.”

Whether it’s teasing me or punching my arm, you taught me to toughen up. It’s because of you that I don’t take myself too seriously.

2. Thank you for treating me like “One of the Guys.”

I may be grossed out 99 percent of the time at the gross things you talk about, but it always makes me smile when I’m included with you and your friends. It’s because of you that I can sometimes pretend I’m a bro.

3. Thank you for not causing drama in my life.

Hanging with you never resulted in drama. Enough said!

4. Thank you for helping me “Speak Guy.”

You probably get annoyed at all the screenshots of text messages I send you every time my crush texts me, yet you never complain. You help me translate cryptic messages and conversations from boys. I can now understand some of the guy speak.

5. Thank you for helping me not over-analyze.

Every time I work myself up over something, you remind me to slow it down. You tell me to quit being such a girl, and to take things as they come. It’s because of you that I’ve learned not to over analyze every single thing.

6. Thank you for being my date.

From prom to parties, I can count on you to be my plus one. Thank you for taking time to dress up (something you hate to do) and attend various events with me. Thank you for dancing till your feet are throbbing (since everyone knows how much I love to dance) and making me laugh out loud during formal uptight dinners.

7. Thank you for “Keeping it Real.”

You never shy away from giving me your brutally honest opinion on everything from accessories to boys. I never have to worry about you not saying something in order to protect my feelings (though I probably could have used that sometimes). Thank you for always being totally honest and real with me.

8. Thank you for teaching me guy stuff.

Whether it’s teaching me how to throw a football, tie a bow-tie, fish, or drive in the snow, you were willing to teach me something new. Thank you for being patient with me and not laughing TOO hard when I miserably failed.

9. Thank you for hanging with me.

I’m so thankful for all our coffee runs, date nights, and adventures. Thank you for hanging out with me just for the heck of it and for dragging me out of the house on Valentine’s Day or after a break-up, instead of letting me mope around, sad and alone.

10. Thank you for teaching me that girls and guys can be “Just Friends”

You’ve taught me so much about boys and friendship and how we can value and have a true friendship with the opposite sex. Thank you for gagging when people joke about us being more than friends. I love being your best girl friend! I truly can’t imagine my life without you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
