10 Things I Learned From You, Dad

As Father's day nears closer, I've taken the time to realize just how many important things my dad has taught me. The father-daughter dynamic can be a tricky one, but I wouldn't trade the lessons I've learned from him for the world.

1. Work ethic

No one works harder than my dad. He does everything he can for our family and has shown me the power of perseverance every single day.

2. The power of coffee (and how to make it)

As a kid, I used to think the numerous cups a day was a bit excessive. Now, I completely understand what he's been up to this whole time.

3. Independence

Growing up requires learning to do things on your own and often stepping out of your comfort zones. While I don't always enjoy it, it is very necessary and my dad always reminds me of that.

4. Sports

Now, I definitely can't say I've succeeded in playing them, but I've definitely learned a lot about sports thanks to this guy.

5. Selflessness

My dad would truly give the shirt off of his back for anyone he cares about. I am forever thankful for him constantly reiterating that putting those you love before you is something that should never be second-guessed.

6. Moms are awesome

My dad will never let me forget just how awesome my mom is. He appreciates her more than I knew was possible and has shown me what true love looks like. She can warm him up a frozen pizza and he'll compliment it as if it's a five-star meal. If that's not a testament to his character, I don't know what is.

7. What I deserve

My dad reminds me all the time of what I deserve. Whether it be friends, boys, or just life in general, he never lets me forget the extent of my worth. I've learned to never settle and I have him to thank for that.

8. How to drive

Now, I'm not necessarily good at driving, but my dad has definitely taught me more about driving than drivers ed ever did. Thankful for him showing me how to drive long distance, change a tire, and park (sorta).

9. Lots and lots of Dad jokes

"I'm hungry" "Oh Hi Hungry, I'm Dad. Nice to meet you!" Never gets old.

10. There's no bond quite like that of a father and daughter

There is no doubt that we don't always see eye to eye, but no one has my best interest in mind more than my dad. From being my biggest fan for all twenty years to becoming one of my greatest friends, he really does it all. Watching your little girl grow up isn't easy, but he continues to do it, supporting me every step of the way. I am so lucky to have such a great influence and role model, and I am more than thankful for everything he has taught me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
