It's summertime! If you're a writer like me, that means you might be stuck staring at a blank screen, wondering what to write, or even why you write to begin with. Contrary to popular belief, all the extra time you have in your day does not always translate into more time for creativity or more chapters you're able to bust out in a day. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just can't think of anything to write. And that can be pretty discouraging. Well, you're not alone! And you shouldn't give up. To give you a little encouragement, here are 10 quotes to inspire all of my fellow writers:
1. When you're stuck at the beginning, try it the writer's way.
2. When you get stuck trying to please the readers, remember--that's not what you were supposed to do.
3. When you don't know where to turn to for your inspiration, just remember to look to the world.
4. Don't wait for perfection.
5. Never lose touch with your empathy; it's your most important trait as a writer.
6. When you struggle with writing a character -- and you will -- get to know them.
7. When you lose sight of where your story is going, try to figure out what act you're in.
8. When you don't know what to do, surprise the reader.
9. When, as you get older, you begin to wonder if you'll ever get a book published, remember that it's never too late.
10. And finally, when it all looks bleak, and your characters are acting up, and your plot just won't make sense, positivity will get you through.
So what are you waiting for? Pick up that pen, grab your favorite notebook, and write. Show your magic and put it in words, because you're the only one who can share your story with the world.
