Mothers will always know best. They have lived longer and experienced more than we have, and the advice they give should not be taken lightly. Today for mothers day I thought it would be fitting to celebrate and recognize how wise our mothers are with a list of invaluable lessons about life my mom has taught me.

1. Never settle

My mom has told me this since I first starting talking about boys. There are so many people in this world and there is someone out there that is perfect for you, someone that will treat you how you deserve to be treated. My mom has taught me to know my worth and to absolutely never settle for anything less, because we are all worthy.

2. Have fun, wherever and whenever

Life can be tough, and if you don't learn to smile and dance in the rain, it can be even tougher. My mom has shown me how to make the most of a situation and turn almost any flat surface into a dance floor.

3. Charm gets you far, hard work gets you farther

Charm can be useful, but at the end of the day to be truly successful and to have people take you seriously, you need to be hardworking and charming.

4. You can do anything you set your mind to

My mom is the first to remind me that no boundary or disability can ever come in the way of true success, all you need is faith and hard work.

5. True beauty comes from the inside out

You can be the most beautiful girl in the world, but if you aren't kind and thoughtful, it doesn't matter. True beauty is in selflessness, and in empathy for others.

6. You can survive anything

My mom's resiliency is something I've always admired. It shows true strength to have something terrible happen to you, or to someone you love, and still have the courage to keep on living your life like nothing has changed. At the end of the day what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

7. Girls can do anything boys can do

In todays society, where girls are constantly torn down and sexualized, it is very important to remember that no matter what girls and boys are equals. I hope to one day live in a world where girls are treated and respected as equals to men, but until then I will continuously have the backing of my mom to fight it. #girlpower

8. Stand up for what you believe in

Nothing will ever change unless someone brave enough stands up for it. My mom has shown me that it's ok to have an opinion on something, and to voice it, because that is how you are going to change the world.

9. Good things take time

Patience is a virtue I don't seem to have. But my mom has shown me that the best things in life are worth waiting for, and the best things take the longest time. Wether that is the perfect boy, perfect career, or total happiness, it will come if you give it time.

10. Be yourself

In a world of people pretending to be who they aren't, the best thing to be is yourself. Because there is no one more fun, more special and more amazing than you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
