10 Things That Happen At The Family Lake House

Once again, summertime has rolled around and that means several things. As we grow older, life gets more complicated and summer plans shift and change, but if your family is lucky enough to own a lake house, you always know that you have one solid, familiar place to look forward to going. Life by the lakeside is simple, happy and carefree. The family lake house is filled with years and years of memories and when you were a little kid and it would seem like the most incredible place in the world. Maybe life has gotten busy and you can no longer go for as long as you used to, but when you do get up there, every moment is cherished, because days at the family lake house are pretty one of a kind, in the most comfortable and wonderful of ways.

1. You probably end up eating WAY too much.

If you have a family that loves to cook and eat as much as mine does then being at the lake house all together means food, food and more food. The grill is taken full advantage of and every day is full of delicious summery meals. Everyone knows that going to the lake house is probably going to mean packing on a few pounds, but it's a risk we're all willing to take.

2. There's no need to make yourself look presentable.

Days at the lake don't require makeup, hair straighteners, etc. You're going swimming all the time so there's no point, plus you're with your family, so there's really no one you need to impress.

3. You get to see a whole lot of beautiful sunsets.

Sunsets on the lake are pretty darn magnificent.

4. You pretty much always eat outside.

The view of the lake while you eat somehow makes food taste even better.

5. You basically become a fish.

You can't go to the lake house without doing a whole lot of swimming. Your days usually consist of a mix of laying out on your towel until you're hot enough and then plunging into the lake to cool off and swim with the fam.

6. Drinking is a popular festivity.

The lake is a perfect place to relax with a cold drink. Or several.

7. It's the place that you learned how to fish, way back in the day.

Whether or not you're still into fishing, you have memories of being taught by a family member as a little kid how to hook a worm and cast a line.

8. Card games are a popular nighttime activity.

You can probably recall multiple incidences in which a card game with the fam (usually Spoons) got extremely competitive and a bit out of hand.

9. You have a certain favorite ice cream shop and restaurant.

Ever since you can remember, you've had those certain food places that you only associate with trips to the lake and you always make sure to make at least one visit while you're there.

10. Boat rides are in high demand.

If one of your family members has a boat it probably means many intense tubing sessions, as well as water skiing, wake-boarding, etc. Kayaking is also quite popular.

They say it's the simple things in life that make it great, and time spent on the lake is a perfect example. Here's to many more years, memories, laughs, and sunburns at your beloved family lake house.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
