Many of us come into college either not knowing anyone, or with someone from high school we do not necessarily want to associate with. So, like we did for many years of elementary and middle school, we search for the perfect group to call our "people." This may take a few tries, or we may be lucky and find them instantly — nevertheless, they are the people we choose to turn into our family away from home.
We need to take a step back and thank them for everything they have done for us and put up with just being our friend during one of the most trying years of college.
10. Thank you just being my friend without making me ask.
It can be super awkward trying to verify a friendship, no matter what age. Thank you for being nice to me at orientation, allowing me to hopelessly cling to you, and not questioning me out loud when I called you my friend in public for the first time.
9. Thanks for being my party people.
Whether we admit it or not, we're all dying to go out and have the typical 'college experience'. Thanks for helping figure out what 'Jungle Juice' is, where the best places to go were, never letting me walk home alone, telling me if he really IS cute, and of course, always going with me!
8. Thanks for taking care of me when I don't make it.
They say it happens to the best of us, especially when we are new to the party scene. Shouting 'Puke and Rally' doesn't always work, either. Thanks for making sure I made it home alive and hanging out with me wherever I crashed until I felt human again.
7. Thanks for letting me borrow your clothes.
Since we all come from different places, we inevitably have different clothes and styles. Thanks for letting me raid your closet for a nice dress or a crop top when I need to (and even when I didn't)!
6. Thanks for always getting food with me.
There seems to be this random fear of eating in the cafeteria alone. Maybe we're afraid to be judged, or maybe we're just afraid of being alone — whatever the reason, it exists. It goes away eventually, but not after countless dinners and laughs together. Thanks for coming with me so I didn't have to face the caf alone.
5. Thank you for taking classes with me.
Thanks for sitting with me while I pick out classes five days in advanced so I could make sure I had at least ONE class with each of you so we don't have to face the brutality of classes alone. (And secretly so we can figure out which building it is in together because we all know one of us would get lost).
4. Thanks for taking pictures with me.
Taking that perfect Instagram and VSCO worthy pic and be a long process. Thanks for taking a billion pictures with me, even when you've clearly had enough and there is totally a cute one in there somewhere.
3. Thanks for supporting me.
Thanks for coming to awards ceremonies or special events with me, and being there when was down because of a bad grade or super homesick. It honestly meant the world to me. Without you guys I probably would have transferred to a school closer to home.
2. Thanks for being my motivators.
Thanks for pushing me to do my homework, study for that exam, go to the gym, join that organization, be a productive member of society — just everything. I definitely would not have made it this far without you telling me I can do any/everything I wanted to, especially when I doubted myself and my abilities.
1. Thanks for helping me figure this 'college' thing out.
Granted, we were all trying to make it out of the first year of college alive, but honestly, I wouldn't have been able to make it to the end without you guys. Thanks for liking the same things as me, staying up and talking until 3am talking to me, making countless memories with me, and helping me navigate this college thing so I don't have to do it alone.
Thank you for being the best friend group I could have ever found for the beginning, and getting me through the hardest parts. You guys will always have a special place in my heart, even if (God forbid) something were to happen between us. You guys rock.
