10 Foods You Should Try Once In Your Life

Out of every subject in the world, food is my favorite. My best friend and I love to go out to eat when we get the chance, and even now I love taking my boyfriend out to places where he can try new food or food that he's had before but better. As someone who also studied cooking and has a few good cooks in my family, food is more of a passion. I think people should always go out and try new foods.

So, here are 10 foods I think everyone should try at least once in their life.

1. Lobster Roll

A traditional lobster roll is a sandwich filled with lobster meat soaked in butter and served on a steamed hot dog bun or similar roll. I love lobster, so trying one of these was no big deal for me, but it was something I'll never forget. Find a place that can make these right with big chunks of lobster and a good bun and you will not regret it.

2. Raw Oysters

Raw oysters are a taste only some can like. I came across them at my uncle's birthday party one year. He let me have a taste of one and I fell in love with it. Now, it has no taste if you eat them with nothing on top. I mean, you'll taste the salt but that's about it. I know people who put cocktail sauce on them and lemon juice. I like them all three ways, but the only way you find out if you like something like this is by trying it. If you do try them for the first time, I would highly suggest that you do it when you are staying by the ocean and you can go to a place that gets them fresh from the water.

3. Sushi

I know the thought of raw fish is odd to some people and puts them off, but please know that not all sushi is raw there are some cooked rolls. I, myself, like the raw more than the cooked sometimes. The taste with them is all different it all depends on what they are paired with in the roll. They all have a hint of sweetness from the special sushi rice they use when it's made.

4. Real Ramen

I'm not talking the packet stuff or the noodles in a cup you get when you are a college student living on five bucks. I'm talking fresh noodles, with chicken (or beef) in a warm broth. The flavors that can be put in a bowl like this are so wonderful they warm your soul. If you like the stuff you can get in the cup or the packet then I promise you this will win your heart over.

5. Baklava

I go crazy for this stuff. It's a sugar overload. Baklava is a very rich and sweet pastry made with layer after layer of filo that is filled with sweetened chopped nuts held together with a sweet sticky sauce like syrup or honey. I made this one year in one of my classes and fell in love with the taste very fast. It was like biting into a very sweet and fluffy pillow.

6. Shrimp and Grits

Believe it or not, this is a dish that is normally had for breakfast. The shrimp and the grits take any flavoring really well and can be really sweet or savory. They are normally really smooth if made right. I had these one year when we where in Florida, and once again, fell in love at the first bite.

7. Chicken and Waffles

I always get some odd looks from people when I tell them one of my favorite foods to eat is chicken and waffles. Big fluffy waffles with big flaky pieces of fried chicken covered in sweet homemade sweet maple syrup. Yum! When you take a bite of them all together, you get each layer of flavors one at a time. Sweet and savory with a slight taste of salty. These are something you really shouldn't knock until you try it.

8. Cabbage and Noodles

So when someone says "cabbage and noodles," think lots of noodles and cabbage cooked with salt and pepper and lots and lots of butter. It's a very hearty, warm and savory dish that's great to eat in the winter. It's my favorite dish to eat while I'm curled up next to my pup and a warm fire watching a good movie.

9. Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Growing up, I was always told this was Elvis Presley's favorite sandwich to have, and I never understand why something that sounded so simple could be so wonderful. So I gave in one day and finally made it and holy crap It was really good! It was warm, gooey, and sweet and had just the right amount of crunch from the toasted bread. This is my go to late night snack when I can't sleep and have a paper to write for school.

10. Real French Macaroon

I'm not going to lie, the color is what drew my eyes to this food. I mean, who doesn't like bright colors? Though, as soon as I took a bite out of one of these little cuties, my heart had been won over. It is sweet and crunchy all throughout these little treats. They come in many flavors, hence their many colors. If you like sweets, but not really sweet sweets, then this little colorful cutie is something you need to give a try.

I know people can be picky when it comes to food, but I'm all for stepping out of the box when it comes to trying new food. My mom always said "how do you know you don't like it, if you don't try it?" Sure enough she was right. I've fallen in love with the food on this list, and mostly food in general. You should try something new at least once.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
