Fall Traditions that you can Keep Alive in College
With the first few weeks of classes out of the way, the warm of summer is quickly cooling into long pants, scarves and jackets. While watching summer slip away can be a bummer, there are definitely some things that will get you amped up despite the changing weather. The leaves will soon burst into a beautiful array of colors, there will be warm lattes, comfy sweaters, and plenty of fun activities to do with your friends. Here’s a list of five things that you can get excited about doing with your new college friends this fall!
1. Decorate your Dorm Room
We all know dorm rooms can be a little dingy so spice up your space with some fall décor! Target and Spirit Halloween have tons of cute and cheap decorations to make your room feel a little bit more in season. This is also a prime crafting opportunity to make cute ghosts out of tissue paper and lolly-pops, or a string of pumpkin construction paper cut outs to hang on the wall. Adding these little touches will make the season feel more homey.

2. Watch Football Games (Enjoy chips and dip at the tail gate if you're not a sports fan)
When football season comes around college campuses get pumped up to root for their favorite teams. Whether you’re watching the homecoming game from the side line or spending Sunday night at Buffalo Wild Wings cheering for an NFL team on Sports Network, there is sure to be some fun rivalry coming your way this fall, and plenty of snacks too!
3. Go Apple Picking
Fall is the best time to visit your local apple orchard because the trees are filled with a juicy selection of falls favorite fruit! Apples are great to bring back to school for healthy snacks, or to cover in caramel. There are also plenty of photo ops when you’re on an apple picking adventure which are sure to make your Instagram feed as cozy and fun as the season itself.
4. Build Bonfires
What better time to ignite a soothing bonfire then on a chilly autumn night? Cozying up next to your friends and roasting some marshmallows over the open flame is the perfect way to create new memories with the people you love. The crisp air is great for keeping the summer bugs away too, so you don’t have to worry about getting bitten all night!

5. Make Treats
If you’re lucky enough to have access to a kitchen there are plenty of fall treats to make that will make your hall smell like home. The options are endless such as fresh baked pies and muffins and roasted pumpkin seeds. Plus it will give you and all of your friends something delicious to eat when the dining hall food just doesn’t sound appealing.
6. Choose a Halloween Costume
Arguably one of the most fun parts of the fall season is Halloween! Gearing up for this exciting night is a must. You might miss trick or treating and the abundance of candy, there’s still fun activities for college students on Halloween where costumes are required. Princess dresses that you once showed off as a youngster will turn into epic group costumes for hallo-weekend at college. Last year, large groups of jumpsuit clad Orange is the New Black characters, Avengers Superhero’s, and Minions roamed college campuses. This year it’s up to you and your friends to find creative new outfits to sport for each night of the weekend!
7. Carve Pumpkin
As Halloween approaches spooky jack-o-lanterns illuminate front porches of many houses. Why not continue the fun this year at school? Just make sure to cover the floor with plenty of newspaper because it can get a little messy. If you’re looking for a cheap and easy activity to do while procrastinating on your English paper, carving pumpkins is the way to go. If you can’t find the right equipment for carving, painting pumpkins is just as enjoyable. Plus, Pinterest is filled with new and creative pumpkin decorating ideas, so you can ditch traditional old Jack and create something that will be sure to impress all of your friends!

6. Movie Marathon
Pop some popcorn and gather up in front of the TV because Halloween themed movies are a must for the fall season. Abc Family comes in clutch every year with the Harry Potter Marathon weekend and 13 Nights of Halloween. Fun movies like Halloween Town, Hocus Pocus, and It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown are childhood favorites that deserve be enjoyed for years to come. If you and your friends are feeling brave The Conjuring, The Blaire Witch Project, and It, are all sure to give you a good Halloween scare. It's time to Netflix and chill, pick a flick, or several, and make sure to have plenty of candy to nosh on while you’re watching.
7. Eat Pumpkin Everything
Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pie—there’s no escaping it. The pumpkin obsession has taken over the fall season. If you’re not a huge fan of the flavor, there is an abundance of apple cinnamon foods as well. Definitely take advantage of the season’s unique flavors by trying the bagel shops new pumpkin cream cheese and the dining halls apple crisp because these seasonal flavors will remind you of home!
8. Take Advantage of the Weather
Finally, don’t forget to enjoy the crisp autumn air and the pretty foliage that fall has to offer. Take a walk in a big cozy sweater enjoy how beautiful this time of year can be despite the stress that college can bring.
