10 Facts About Musical Devotees
Noah Perez

Whenever someone asks me what my favorite genre of music is, I never have a definitive answer. However, I know there are others in the same situation who love music as much as I do. The reality is, as music fanatics, we prefer songs that sound good to our ears. We do not inherently dislike a specific genre just because we cringed at one song. That being said, here is a list of 10 facts that let you know you're a musical devotee like me.

1. You’re willing to listen to anything new.

Since there is a plethora of songs in the world, we’re always on the lookout no matter what we listen to.

2. When you find a new song you love you listen to it the rest of the day.

You know when you’ve found that one song that you can listen to for eternity. It’s just too good to miss out!

3. Music often dictates your emotions.

Upbeat songs make me confident like I’m able to conquer the world. Deep lyrical songs puts me in a quiet, philosophical zone. Sad songs make me sad. The list goes on...

4. Music is your main motivation.

If you’re sitting in silence and can’t seem to be productive, you know exactly what your problem is. Whether you're trying to write a paper or considering working out, music will always be there to motivate you.

5. Sharing with others helps to broaden your perspective.

I love talking with my musically inclined roommate who likes most of the songs I listen to. For instance, I wasn’t always fond of rap until he showed me decent rap music. It’s so fulfilling to find a person who can present you with amazing songs!

6. You attach certain feelings to songs.

"Carry On" by Fun. is your motivation. "Nine In The Afternoon" by Panic! At The Disco is your happiness. "Truce" by Twenty One Pilots is your sadness. It’s different for everyone.

7. You have your own study music preference.

I'd say it depends on whatever you're working on. You might listen to the complete "Lord of The Rings" soundtrack or a soundtrack from your favorite video game. Whatever the choice might be, you can’t go wrong with classical music.

8. Music keeps your mind free.

Sometimes you just have to listen to music to get through the day. We have those days when nothing but music restores our sanity.

9. Music is nostalgic.

Some songs will remind you of awesome or terrible events that you experienced. Concerts, parties, friendships, relationships; you could attribute a different song to every situation and never forget it. Even specific sounds and choruses will trigger a memory or give you déjà vu.

10. Music is your go-to.

When in doubt, you listen to your favorite song.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
