Sometimes deciding on plans can be overwhelming. Often times you sit around waiting for inspiration but you just can’t think of what you would like to do with your date. After experiencing this ridiculous situation, and feeling frustrated every time, I decided to compile a list of a few of my favorite dates in hopes of providing some ideas for others to consider. Because after all, who wants to waste time planning rather enjoying the time you have with the person you love.
1. Watch a $2 Movie
Every time the movie idea comes up, the discussion of expensive tickets always follows. I never enjoy spending $20 on a movie if I’m not guaranteed to love the new release. Instead, I opt for checking out the local $2 movie theater. My hometown has a popular spot, so when I came to High Point I searched online to see if we had one as well. I was pleased to find that we have one no more than 10 minutes from the school. Not only is this an enjoyable date, but it is also affordable.
2. Cook dinner together
Whether you want to share a special recipe, or just try making something new, cooking together can be a very rewarding date choice. My favorite part is searching for the recipe to a plate you’ve always wanted to taste, and attempting to create it together. If cooking a whole meal sounds overwhelming, try baking a simple dessert you can enjoy after eating out for dinner. Show off your skills and spend time preparing a delicious meal you will later have the opportunity to savor together.
3. Take a walk around the local park
Find a park nearby and spend the day walking the various nature trails. In my hometown we have a park with various themed gardens. One pathway will take you around the Japanese garden, while another could lead to the Italian fountains. Not only are you spending time in nature and enjoying the beauty of the outdoors, but you’re also given plenty of time for conversation and learning more about each other.
4. Visit the zoo
A visit to the zoo is a great choice for any animal lover. If you are lucky to live close to the local zoo, you can enjoy a scenic walk through the countless habitats and see many rare animals. It’s not everyday that you can watch a group of gorillas hanging out.
5. Attend a local sporting event
Sports fan or not, a date at a sporting event can be extremely fun. If you’re looking for a last minute game, the minor league baseball teams play anywhere from 60-140 games during their season and are bound to be in the area for a game when you are in the mood. They offer delicious concessions and often engage the crowd during the whole event. If they’re in your area, buying tickets to your favorite sports team’s game is always an unforgettable experience.
6. Spend a day on the beach
Jump in the water and cool off on a hot summer date, or walk along the boardwalk exploring the various shops. If you get hungry, there are always plenty of local restaurants to enjoy. A day on the beach is relaxing whether for a day, or an extended stay.
7. Groupon hunting
I love trying new restaurants, but can never think of where to go. The Groupon App is helpful in these situations. If you simply look up local restaurants that have deals, the hidden spots around town always appear. Not only are they assisting you with indecisiveness, but you are also saving money by using a Groupon deal on your meal.
8. Take a class
With the Internet at our fingertips, finding a class to take together is extremely easy. Search for something that catches your interest, or attempt learning a hobby that your date enjoys. Try anything from a dance class at the local Cuban restaurant, to a cooking class to help sharpen your skills.
9. Go hiking
When the weather is nice, hiking is a great date and exercise idea. Not only is it enjoyable to encourage and push yourself together, but also getting to enjoy the view at the top is always better with someone you love. No matter how in shape you are, there are plenty of hiking trails to accommodate to those that wish to climb 3 miles rather than 10.
10. Enjoy a trip to the fun park
Amusement parks are a great date idea for the couples wanting to enjoy a rush together. Ride all the roller coasters and treat yourself to a funnel cake at the end. These dates can be especially fun during October when the scary rides and fun houses are back in season. For something less time consuming or expensive, try mini-golf at a Putt-Putt near you.
