"What’s your favorite color?"
"Umm, red. No, Blue! Green? I don’t know, it depends."
"What’s your cup of coffee? Cream, sugar?"
"Uhhh. Yes."
"Lemonade or sweet tea?"
"Can I have both?"
It’s a little known fact that I have no favorite anything and it becomes a daily struggle. You may call it being “indecisive.” I prefer to say “I have no favorites,” which is also very true.
1. I listen to just about anything.
If you take a look through my song selection, you’ll find an eclectic mix of music. There’s anything from Adele’s “Someone Like You” to Vampire Weekend’s “Unbelievers”. There might also be some Skrillex, hiding.
2. Don't ask me where we should eat.
Deciding where to have lunch from the student union or the food court in the mall is literally maddening. I often find myself turning 360° trying to narrow my search for a simple meal. I’m lucky if I have a friend nearby to tell me what I want to eat. Yes, I submit to peer pressure during these times of tribulation.
3. What am I going to wear today?
Being very indecisive has lead me to having a lot of clothes. I’ll admit there have been days where I change outfits twice. It’s not my fault Oklahoma has a tendency of running through all four seasons in one day. Sometimes I go for the “I just rolled out of bed and you’re lucky I showed up to this 8am class.” And other times, let’s just say I try.
4. Who am I going to hang out with today?
Although I do have best friends, I find it very hard to decide who to spend time with. Sometimes I wish I could be with everyone at the same time. It comes down to who will stand my annoyingly indecisive presence.
5. Chai latte or macchiato?
It took me x amount time to get to the coffee shop and to wait in line. I am up at the register and have no idea what I want. If you are the barista, I expect you to decipher my mind, because apparently I cannot. “So, you’re looking for something sweet, iced, with or without coffee?" "YES."
6. Am I going out tonight?
"FOMO", the fear of missing out. Let’s be real. The struggle is real and only the strong-willed overcome this epidemic faced by college students everywhere.
7. Turn left or right?
Although…what if I go straight? Then you’ll hit construction. But there’s also construction this way and that way is no better. But! If I go this way, the road is windy and that’s always fun. Make your mind up, and fast because the person behind isn’t as patient as you are.
8. Netflix or homework?
Netflix will always be a click away. Unfortunately, homework will always be haunting you in your sleep as well. I often find myself making the bad choice of watching Netflix. But do I regret my decision? Probably not. I just watched the last season of Parks and Recreation.
9. "Treat yo'self" or "naw?"
On occasions where I shouldn’t be spending money when I go out, I make up excuses to justify my crazy spending on coffee.
10. YES or NO?
Maybe. I simply cannot decide right now, can I get back to you on that? Questions that often result in “yes” or “no” responses can become the worst. My brain does not compute said question correctly and will take its time generating a response that often makes the situation worse.
Of course, these are only a few of the countless situations that indecisive people face every day. If you are not as indecisive and find yourself in a situation with someone who is very indecisive, do us a favor: decide for us!
