10 Christmas Presents Every College Student Wants This Year

It's already November, and you haven't started Christmas shopping yet?

I don't know about most people, but for me every year after Halloween ends, the Christmas season instantly begins. In any case, November is definitely the month to start your Christmas shopping early, and while not everything on this list is easy to purchase I encourage you to get creative because I can promise you that these are 10 things every college student wants for Christmas this year:

A good bowl game

Not everyone can be in the Rose Bowl, but getting your football team to go to an exciting bowl game makes things much more fun. While you can't technically buy your child/friend/significant other a good bowl game, perhaps hoping for a good outcome and then buying tickets would do the trick.

A few more unexcused absences

At this point in the semester, you've probably used most, if not all, of your unexcused absences this semester and just a few more would be the ideal case scenario to get you through the rest of the semester.

Snow days

Please, for the love of God, give us JUST ONE snow day this year. University of Iowa, especially, never even considers the possibility of snow days--but maybe this year will be different.

A personal Über

Now that the weather is getting colder, and it's harder to go to class, a personal Uber to drive you wherever you wanted would be super nice. If you don't want to pay for that, maybe you can offer being the personal Uber for a week or two.

An easy final exam week

Nothing is worse than being stressed and stuck in the library a week before going on Winter break. One of the best gifts of the semester is having an easy week with minimal tests/projects and tests that only cover a few units, not the whole semester.

A massage

While you might not be able to buy someone an easy finals week, the next best step is getting him or her a massage. This will help relieve stress and give a relaxing atmosphere going into their tests or afterwards to calm them down.

Snow boots

I thought I could go without a pair, but after the first snowfall freshman year, boy was I wrong. The long walks from building to building around campus, especially walking up the hills, are tough when you're slipping around in Nikes.

Good Christmas movies on Netflix

There's no better break from homework or studying during the last few months of the semester than sitting back and watching one of your favorite Christmas movies. Netflix: step up your game and put up those classics that we can watch in bed curled up in a ball pretending we don't have two papers due by the end of the week that we haven't started yet.

Groceries that aren't generic brand

If you're a college student and you aren't buying Hyvee or Walmart brand groceries, you're living large. Let me tell you, Dr. Hyvee is just not the same as a nice, cold Dr. Pepper. Get your favorite college student some non-generic brand groceries and I bet you'll put a smile on their face.

A long, relaxing winter break

Please never let the homework-less nights end.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
