It's a Friday night and you and your friends want to get off campus for a bite to eat. Sure you don't have a ton of money, but the thought of stepping into the dining hall tonight makes you cringe. The usual places around campus are always a good choice, but at times you need to venture out of the usual and try a new place. Check out this list of restaurants around the Birmingham area instead of asking tonight, "I dunno, where do you want to eat?"
1. Fuego Cantina Saloon
Tucked in middle of 5 points in downtown, Fuego is your place to go if you're looking for a fun atmosphere and good bite. Their menu contains a mix of burgers, Mexican and wings. Two dollar tacos on Tuesdays, half-price wings on Wednesdays and open until 10 p.m. or later? A college student can't pass on that kind of deal. And they have Fuego Saloon right next door if you want some late night karaoke on Tuesdays.

Feeling Latin food? Then Roho is the place for you. Feeling American food? Then Rojo is also the place for you. Located off Highland Avenue, Roho is your destination for food and community. They have either inside or outside seating and the outside seating is accommodating for your dog to dine with you.

"Classic food with a modern twist" is the Melt motto. When your in college, sometimes you just need a good 'ole grilled cheese. Melt has that for you along with grilled cheeses and sandwiches you've only dreamed about.
5. Jackson’s Bar and Bistro
It’s hard to beat the variety of menu options and casual dinner atmosphere at Jackson’s Bar and Bistro. A customer favorite: try the cookie-dough egg rolls for dessert and share them with a friend. Jackson’s is conveniently located in Homewood and is open seven days a week.
6. Dave’s Pizza
What sets Dave’s apart from other pizza places is the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. This buffet is Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s only $8.76 with tax and features six different pizzas. With several HD-TVs, it’s the perfect spot to watch a big football game, whether during the day or in the evening. Dave’s Pizza is also located just minutes from Samford.
7. HWY 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries
A new restaurant on Green Springs Highway, HWY 55 has fast and friendly service. This 1950s-style diner is known for its wide range of tasty burgers and its signature cheesesteak sandwich. While the burgers are fantastic, a standout selection at HWY 55 is the frozen custard, a smooth, premium ice cream made fresh daily. You'll also find shakes, sundaes, floats and banana splits, priced from $2.99 to $5.49.
8. Demetri’s BBQ
Demetri’s, located in Homewood, has menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The baby back ribs have a flavorful source and the daily specials include chicken kabobs and a savory country fried steak. Demetri’s is open from 6 a.m to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
9. La Paz Restaurant and Catering
If you’re craving some quality Mexican food, La Paz is the place to go. Their famous cheese dip is made with fresh chiles, tomatoes and seasonings. On the dinner menu, you can choose from delicious enchiladas, burritos, tacos, fajitas or quesadillas. La Paz is located in Crestline. Fun fact: Texas Taco Tuesday is $3-5.
10. Saw's Juke Joint
Saws has all the BBQ you'd want from its sister Homewood location, but with more of a restaurant feel. Drive on over to Crestline to enjoy the "casual and friendly" atmosphere while reading over the specials from the chalk board walls.
