It’s no secret that college is stressful. College is a combination of that feeling you felt when you were younger and lost your mom in the grocery store, to feeling as if you are on top of the world because you just managed to get half way to 100 on your Chemistry test.
College is a time for growth, a time for our paths to change in both good and bad ways. It is a time to learn how to deal with a series of failures in which we are forced to face head-on and have no choice but to continue to pick ourselves back up and move on.
Whether we are stressed out and overwhelmed with academics, our boyfriend or girlfriends, our group of friends in general, or because our Netflix account was put on hold because the $8 dollar charge on our debit card got declined - overall our stress is all the same it just comes in a variety of different ways, making it easy to want to change majors, or give up on people who you have been building friendships with since you’ve been in the dorms freshmen year. Making it easy to lash out at your friends or your family, causing you to confuse your priorities and not making time to call or FaceTime your siblings as if anything could possibly be more important than making time for your family, and the list goes on.
It’s easy to get anxious and want to know what your future holds because you lost sight of what you’re working towards. It is easy to get discouraged because you simply feel like you’re not smart enough, nor do you "fit the common student mold" to major in what you are passionate about because you're one of those students who works hard for B's while all your friends are straight A students who seem as though already have their lives together. You feel defeated because sometimes your best may not be good enough, and that's okay.
It’s easy to get bitter and angry because you want to know why certain scenarios in life happen to you, or why certain people come in and out of your life. Trying to find your purpose is hard enough, but trying to figure out someone's purpose in your life is even harder - especially if they are not part of it anymore.
Trying to understand why or how you could do so terrible on a test you studied for more than you studied your whole entire high school career is yet another example to add to the list of why college kids are so overwhelmed all the time.
I recently realized that we were not made to understand why or what happens in our life, we were not made to search for our worth in a test grade or social calendars. If we continue to try and search for worth, security, and confidence in places such as the classroom, our sorority or fraternity, or in the college party scene, we will never be satisfied.
If we would all stop, and focus our stress and anxiety to the one person who can truly provide the comfort, confidence, and peace we all need to see sometimes, our lives would be way easier. We need to stop trying to plan every single bit of our future, and allow Christ to reveal it to us over time simply because his timing is perfect - regardless of how hard that is to see sometimes. Stop, and try to find comfort in telling yourself, “I will make it because He carries me."
So to the struggling, stressed out, confused what the heck you’re doing with your life college kids like myself - chill. He is greater than any temporary feeling or situation we have gotten ourselves into.
