Before the start of the 2015 NFL season head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Chip Kelly, promised all Eagles fans a great season. Fans were still mourning the loss of Nick Foles, but Kelly assured them that Sam Bradford was the man for the job. As a longtime Eagles fan, I was used to the rollercoaster seasons the birdgang was known for. But this season was the first season that I was able to experience the Eagles while living in Philadelphia. My attitude towards the team changed as I became a super fan of the “boys in green” and made sure to watch every one of their games.
When the Eagles went four and one in preseason I was extremely hopeful for what was coming in the regular season. September 14th was the first day of the Eagles regular season. They traveled to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. The Eagles were up 17 points at halftime, but the Falcons #roseup and defeated the Eagles 26-24. Although the game was a loss on the Eagles side, Bradford passed 336 yards. After having been out of the NFL game for about a year prior, 336 passing yards was nothing to be ashamed about. But a first regular season game loss was something every Eagles fan wanted to steer away from.

Following the Falcons game, the Eagles loss to the Dallas Cowboys. If you live in, around, or even pretty far away from Philadelphia, you know how much every Philadelphia Eagles fan hates the Cowboys, especially Tony Romo. The game was nothing short of a disappointment, with the final score coming out to 20-10. No Eagles player, coach, or fan wanted to think about that game, especially since it was played at home, Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles came out of the defeat against the cowboys a stronger team and defeated the Jets, the Saints, and the Giants. I had the pleasure of being at the Eagles vs. Giants game and even though it wasn’t Bradford’s best game, they still came out with the W. Coming off the great win against the Giants, the Eagles were about to face their biggest obstacle yet, the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers were undefeated in the regular season leading up to their match up with the Eagles. Cam Newton looked like an entirely new player than he was last season. Although the Panthers were no team to mess with, I was a hopeful Eagles fan. I learned quickly that maybe that wasn’t the best thing for me. Sam Bradford didn’t play the game Eagles fans want to see being played. The offensive line couldn’t keep the defense away from Bradford, it was just a mess.

The Philadelphia Eagles organization promised me a season to look forward to. I made sure I watched every game, look up every stat, and followed up with every post game press conference. But my beloved team hasn’t made me a proud Eagles fan. They have dragged me along a bumpy road, broken promises, and have not come together as a team. The Eagles give me many pains, the worst of all being commitment issues. Thanks Chip Kelly.
