Many people have waited all summer to see the Crimson and Cream take the field at Oklahoma’s Memorial Stadium, and our Sooners did not disappoint with a home opener win over Louisiana Tech.
The final score of the game was 48-16, with OU dominating the entire game and holding LA Tech to 245 yards.
The Sooners scored on their first four possessions, and many players got the opportunity to make their mark on the field. Running back Keith Ford scored the first touchdown, making several cuts to LA Tech’s defense in a 22-yard run to find the end zone. Ford also scored again later in the first quarter on a five-yard run; he rushed for a total of 51 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Sterling Shepard, a junior wide receiver, scored on the Sooners second possession from a 16 yards pass from quarterback Trevor Knight in the first quarter. Shepard finished the game with four catches for 49 yards.
Alex Ross, another running back, had a standout game. Ross scored in the second quarter on a one-yard run. After Ross scored, LA Tech finally managed to get on the board with a field goal attempt, brining the score to 31-3 at halftime.
As the second half of the game started, the Sooners did not allow LA Tech to come back. Ross scored again in the third quarter.
The running game for the Sooners was on point, seeing as freshman running back Samaje Perine got to see the field and scored in the fourth quarter, rounding off the victory for the Sooners.
OU’s defense was able to take control of LA Tech’s offense early in the game by putting pressure on LA Tech’s quarterback.
Cornerback Zach Sanchez led the defense with an interception and a blocked field goal, setting the offense up for another scoring drive.
Trevor Knight looked polished, efficient and comfortable in the game, and despite Knight’s one interception in the game, he played unfazed.
