Youtube has become my TV. It is one of my favorite ways to kill time. There is always a video to watch that you haven’t seen, a new trend to catch up on (I don’t know why I love watching girls tell me what’s in their bag, but I do) and a new personality to fall in love with.
I have spent a good amount of time on the internet, and I have compiled a list of five youtubers of a few different genres that you should be watching.
And they make some damn good stuff.
Casey Neistat
Casey Neistat is an incredible daily vlogger. For those unaware, vlogging is video-blogging. Essentially filming interesting things you do every day. The reason Casey’s vlogs are so unique is that, unlike many youtube vloggers, he films on a professional grade camera rather than an iPhone. His shots are beautifully executed, his time lapses are mind numblingly beautiful, and he has a bunch of cool skateboards and tech gadgets that he plays with. He has such an interesting life, living in New York City making a living as a film maker as well as an app developer. Hop on that Neistat train.

Jenna Marbles, duh.
If you haven’t heard of Jenna Marbles yet, just leave. You shouldn’t even be reading this article. What I love about Jenna is that she is unapologetically herself. She doesn’t care about making a fool of herself, or what the world might think of her hair color or why she dresses up her dogs. She just genuinely wants to make her viewers laugh, and make herself laugh in the process. Also, her boyfriend Julien Solomita is a daily vlogger as well, and if you love Jenna’s dogs like I do, follow him for exclusive dog footage.

Grace Helbig
Grace is along the same spectrum of Jenna in that she makes comedy videos. However, it's different, so I’m not repeating myself. Grace Helbig has been dubbed the internet's awkward older sister, but I think of her more as the school counselor that just wants to help but doesn’t quite know what to say to make you feel better. She is charming, witty, sassy, and a fun personality guaranteed to make you giggle!

Mamrie Hart
Don’t we all deserve a drink? Mamrie Hart’s weekly show, “You Deserve a Drink,” explains in all of its pun-filled glory, how to make a custom drink invented by former bartender, Mamrie. Each video has a theme, usually pop culture, where she finds a celebrity or pop culture icon that has recently had a scandal come out, or maybe they have been doing really great, but they deserve a drink either way. Her horrible puns and sexually charged jokes will have you giggling all day.

Sam Tsui
Sam Tsui is a singer and music video aficionado. His music videos are generally covers of top 40 songs, and sometimes he will mash two together to make something new and awesome. His voice is light, energetic and beautiful. Usually he will collab with famous singers, or other YouTube musicians to fuse together something incredible. My personal favorite is his Maroon 5 medley with Victoria Justice. Also, just look at him. He's adorable.

I hope that one of these YouTube personalities is new and different to you, maybe just seeing their face made you think, “oh hey, they look interesting. Lets give it a shot!”
In no way are these the only Youtubers online - these barely scrape the surface. I am subscribed to 33 channels currently, spanning from short film makers, to musicians, to comedians, to make up gurus. There is a never ending list of possible rabbit holes to fall down.
If you’re like me, and decided not to splurge on the full cable package but desperately need something mindless but entertaining to watch, YouTube is the way to go. Maybe you’ll even learn something!
