YouTube Is Taking Over My Life And That's Ok

I have had this obsession for a while now. But I just can’t help myself! My fingers just automatically type it in the search bar at this point. It’s not my fault! I just can’t help but wait and see what my new recommended videos are for the day. And after watching all of them, whoops, it seemed as though I have just subscribed to over twenty new people.

After doing some research, I wondered if people had the same problem as I do. But I think I understand now.

Over 300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute.

More than one billion, three hundred million people have an account on YouTube.

And 8 out of 10 18 to 49 year-olds watch YouTube.

These statistics are insane!

Plus, there is just so much to watch!

The main videos that I click on are mostly vines, old memes, classic YouTuber videos (like Jenna Marbles and Dan and Phil are some of muy favorites) and cat and dog videos.

YouTube is my way of relaxing and chilling out after a hard day of work and play. Instead of watching Netflix, I do hardcore YouTube deep-dives where I search of anything that comes to mind. Yesterday, I found myself watching someone play a ukulele under-water (spoiler alert, it didn’t sound very good because of the water pressure).

My relationship with YouTube has been a good one. I started watching since I was a sophomore in high school and it has always inspired me to start my own channel.

I did do that my junior year of high school. It was just for fun, I wanted to do it as a way to continue my passion for video-making and I am really proud of some of the videos on that channel. When I look back on them now, they seem really cheesy and a little silly, but I love them with all my heart.

But now, I am re-branding myself to the ‘Kool Kat’ I am today. I call my channel KatOnKAMera. Kat, because of my nickname from camp and college and the KAMera is a play on my initials KAM. I didn’t come up with myself, however. My friend did a Yahoo ask question in 2013 where some random person suggested “On KAMera” and the name just appeared in that way (Thanks Julia!).

All in all, YouTube is a wonderful place that should be applauded for it’s originality and some of it’s amazing content. I am so lucky to have this creative platform where I can express myself.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
