You're Hating 'BryanStars' For All The Wrong Reasons

Seriously, you need to calm down.

For those who don't know, BryanStars is a former interviewer and current musician in the "scene" and "emo" genres. He is well known as the tall, white, awkward blonde boy with the blue Aeropostale shirt and a microphone in hand, usually standing in front of a camera and either on a couch, in a tour bus, next to a tour bus, or backstage with band members, asking them silly questions and getting even sillier answers in response.

BryanStars has interviewed musicians from popular bands such as Black Veil Brides, Asking Alexandria, Pierce The Veil, Sleeping With Sirens and all those other big-name bands in the scene. I guess you could say he’s made it as an interviewer.

However, there's been a lot of recent backlash against his current career choice.

BryanStars is now a musician, and people have some strong opinions about him.

I don’t listen to his music because it’s not my type, but he recently released his new EP, "Follow Your Dreams" along with a few music videos. You can check out his first music video below.

I have to admit that the video is a bit awkward. At 0:19 Bryan can’t even hug a girl without having his arm collide with hers, but that’s completely OK (at least for BryanStars).

You see, although BryanStars is known for his interviews, there’s a particular reason why his interviews were so popular. He has a certain awkward flare to him. I mean this in the least negative way possible: BryanStars is just a naturally awkward guy. I can’t really imagine any other interviewer asking someone who’s well-respected in the music scene, “If you were a porn star, what would your porn star name be?”

The awkwardness suits him, if you know what I mean.

Even so, I can't help but notice that the same people who keep bashing BryanStars' music are only doing so for illogical and unnecessary reasons.

To put it simply, here’s why people hate BryanStars (and why they’re wrong).

1. BryanStars is cringe-worthy and even more awkward now.

Well, like I said, that’s just who he is. If you can’t handle the fact that he’s naturally a bit awkward (and there’s nothing wrong with that), then you need to sit back and realize that you’re wasting your time bashing certain personalities. People didn't seem to have as much of a problem with his awkward interviews, so why hate his awkward music videos? Also, he might be awkward to you, but just remember that he has a fan base that actually likes him, otherwise he wouldn’t be making music.

2. They see everyone else doing it.

A lot of people didn’t even know that BryanStars was making music until someone they know pointed it out by making fun of him. It's really "in" to hate or love what everyone else hates or loves. This stems from a lack of open-mindedness or willingness to expand viewpoints. It honestly doesn't make any sense to judge Bryan's entire career choice because a few of your friends think he sucks.

3. They think that their music taste is better than BryanStars' music.

Your music taste is literally just euphoric stimuli in your frontal and temporal lobes' auditory areas. Congrats, you are so much better than someone because of the way your neural mechanics are set up. (Note the sarcasm.)

This isn’t even a BryanStars-only problem. It’s a problem in music in general. People who listen to heavier music generally think that they’re better than people who don’t. No one should feel superior to someone else just because they have a different music taste. It's like hating someone because they don't like your favorite food.

4. BryanStars should stick to interviewing.

There’s a certain reason BryanStars stopped doing interviews. All the bands and musicians that he used to interview got more popular and it virtually became impossible for him to arrange any more interviews, so he started interviewing smaller bands who weren’t as well-known. When that didn’t appeal to his audience, he made a second YouTube channel, BryanStars 2.0, and premiered rising bands' music videos on there. Again, it didn’t appeal to his audience, so he had to stop. He worked his ass off to make his fans happy, but it wasn't working. It was destroying him mentally and financially.

5. His videos give off the wrong message and even patronize girls.

Why pick on him when there are so many other music videos that degrade females? All he does in the “Shut Up And Kiss Me” music video is go on a mini-golf date with a girl, get chased around by “cops” and end up crashing at home and watching a movie there. You never hated him or found him degrading when he asked, “If you were a porn star, what would your porn star name be?” or “Can you read these excerpts from '50 Shades of Grey'?” so why hate him now? If you want to know what female degradation is, go watch "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke, "Ms. New Booty" by Bubba Sparxxx or "Tipsy" by J-Kwon.

6. He’s too old to be doing this.

Actually, he’s 25. The band members he is most known for interviewing range around 25-33 years, with a few exceptions. A couple of his co-workers in My Digital Escape are almost 25 (Jordan is 23 and Jeyden is 24). If you can handle the lead vocalists of Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce The Veil being in their 30s while having fans in their early teens, then I’m pretty sure you can handle BryanStars having fans the same age.

You guys are wasting your time bashing on BryanStars, If he doesn’t appeal to you, get over it and move on. He doesn’t live his life to do silly, wacky interviews with your favorite bands for your own amusement. He’s also a person. He also has a life. If he enjoys making music, why not let him do so?

I'm not saying you have to like BryanStars. You just have to respect him. If you're an aspiring or current musician, you know that not everyone will like you, but you'd still want to be respected, right? Just think before you make any irrational decisions, like telling people that "BryanStars is cancer," when you very well know you're probably just writing that Facebook status about him to look mainstream or to get likes. We all know you're better than that.

I can’t help but think of what the response to his songs like “Shut Up And Kiss Me” or "Smile" would be if they were recorded by a well-known pop punk band like All Time Low or even a well-known pop band like One Direction.

The truth is, you’re dragging Bryan’s past into his present, but they don’t merge. They can’t merge. His interviewing days are over, and he’s focusing on his music and YouTube videos with My Digital Escape.

To all aspiring and current musicians: Don’t you make music to make yourself and others happy? Did it ever occur to you that BryanStars is doing the exact same thing?

How would you feel if you went after your dreams and were constantly turned down because you’re “cringe-worthy,” especially if you’re just naturally a bit awkward to people? Honestly, just let BryanStars live his life doing what he loves. If you don’t like Bryan, just turn away like you do with all the other music you can’t stand. Don’t waste your time talking crap about someone who just wants to make music when you can be doing so much better. He's also a lot more successful than you, so he's clearly doing something right that you aren't, and it might have to do with one word: Respect.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
