Too often we are too afraid to try. We are so afraid to fall, we won’t attempt to fly.
Fear is the biggest motivator. Fear of rejection. Fear of failure. Fear of missing out. Fear of messing up. Being afraid. One of the most negative experiences in life controls us more than the most positive. You don’t apply for your dream job out of fear of rejection. You don’t ask the girl of your dreams out because you’re afraid of being embarrassed. You are too scared to be laughed at that you won’t even speak up and share your ideas.
But what if you weren’t? What if you didn’t let fear control your life? What if, just once, you let the possibility of hitting a home run inspire you to go up to bat, instead of letting the fear of striking out keep you on the bench all season?
Why limit it to just once? Why can’t we always let our dreams and the chance of happiness decide our fate? What if you DID get the job, and not only that, you totally rocked it and it was even better than you imagined? What if you asked her out, she said yes, and a beautiful relationship came to be? What if your ideas are completely supported and appreciated?
One of the downfalls of the human race is the inability to predict the future. And it’s terrifying. Not knowing what could happen is absolutely petrifying. Something horrible could happen...or something amazing could. From a different perspective, the future can be freeing. It can be liberating to know that anything can happen, and that anything could be the best thing.
A change in perspective is the first step to overthrow the kingdom of fear that is ruling your mind. Be positive, despite the voices in your head. It’s the hardest thing in the world, but it is one of the most rewarding changes you can make. When you stop letting fear control what you’re not doing, you may just stumble upon the best experiences of your life.
So don’t forget to try. Don’t forget to venture outside your comfort zone because the rewards are nearly always worth it. Let your dreams become a reality. Be yourself; it’s much less work than trying to be someone else.
