People are going to come and go throughout your whole life. From the day you make your first friend in preschool to the days you’re puttering around a nursing home, you probably won’t be friends with the same people. But there’s one person that’s going to have been there the whole time, through every single up and down you’ve ever experienced, and that’s you.
Sometimes it’s hard to go easy on yourself. You see into the deepest parts of yourself that nobody else is aware of, and at times this can be hard to manage. But give yourself a break. You’re doing the best that you can, and there’s enough hate in this world without you giving it to yourself.
Learn to be alone. It sounds crazy but talk to yourself. Make jokes aloud that you’d make if there were people around, and laugh at them if you want. Get to know yourself. Look into different types of music, movies, tv shows, figure out what you like and what you don’t. Nobody else in this world has the same taste as you. Become your own biggest fan. If you feel good about the way you look one day, let yourself. Don’t tell yourself you’re being cocky, or that the cute boy in your math class might not think so. Who cares? The body you were given is the body you are meant to have, work it.
There are some days when you’ll feel like nobody gets it. And that’s because maybe they don’t. Nobody on this planet will ever know each and every crevice of your always-evolving mind. Accept this. Embrace this. You don’t need anybody else to understand because you do. Live for yourself, not your friends, not your parents, not that cute boy in your math class. Because at the end of the day, you’re the one who will never leave your side.
