I am almost 20 years old, and it has taken me those 20 years to figure out that there is so much more to life than the way most of us are living now. We are not put on this Earth to spend our entire lives working. We are not put on Earth to stress about the simplest things. We are put on this Earth to find a passion and to run as far as we can with it. We need to bring that passion with us throughout our entire life and use it to change the lives of others. Everyone is born with something, and it could take years or decades to discover what your passion is, but you will eventually find it. And when you do, run with it. I refuse to spend my years on Earth working a mediocre nine-to-five job. I refuse to spend my entire life worrying about money. We are put on Earth to experience the beauty this world has to offer. Whether it be through traveling across the globe or impacting those around you, we are put on this planet to make a difference. Granted, these things cost money, but regardless, the point is to be living as fully as possible.
I want to spend my life enjoying every second. I want to enjoy every second I spend working. I want to work a job that brings me happiness, not a job where I count down the minutes to break.
More often than not I get frustrated with myself because I feel like I'm not fulfilling everything I can. Why am I in stressed out in college when I could be working on a beautiful island somewhere? It's a simple choice that anyone can make. Anyone can drop out of school and move to an incredible island where they spend the rest of their lives, but instead, we all push through to graduate school with a degree that will hopefully get us an average nine-to-five job.
There will be people all over this planet who spend their entire lives working toward a paycheck and nothing else. They won't focus their energy on self-growth, relationships or anything related to that matter. The only thing on their mind will be their biweekly paychecks.
I refuse to settle for that lifestyle. I want to be in love with my life and to be excited every morning for the day to start. I want to spend my life soaking up every ounce of sunlight.
The thought of growing up does not scare me. What scares me is the thought of growing up and living an average life, a life that follows so many others. I'm not afraid of working every day; I'm afraid of working every day at a job that brings me misery. No matter how great your paycheck may be from your mediocre nine-to-five job, if it is not bringing positivity into your life, then what are you doing?
I was given this life. I need to spend it wisely.
