We all have that one outlandishly terrible ex-boyfriend whom all your friends hated and constantly questioned you dating. He demeaned you, controlled you, and you were stupid enough to call it love. Well, here are some reasons why that guy might have been the best thing to ever happen to you

1. He showed you everything a real man is not.

By being the worst person in your life, he showed you just how amazing everyone else is. To think that being constantly respected is something you are no longer used to after dating him shakes your world. You can finally see all the negative after you've moved on from him, and understand why you would never go back to the way things were.

2. Dating him helped you realize what you truly deserve in a relationship.

Now that you're single and ready to mingle again, you know exactly what you want, need, and deserve from your next potential guy, and you won't ever settle for anything less again. You've gone down the road of compromise on certain things that you shouldn't have before, so there is no way you're going to do that to yourself again.

3. He taught you how to become a person you are proud of.

After dating him and realizing what the relationship really was, you look to find what makes you happy again. So, maybe you join that club he called stupid, or take that class he said would be a waste of your time, or hang out with old guy friends he was too insecure about before. Whatever the good lifestyle change you decide to make post-him, its doing what you want, it's empowering yourself, and it's making you happy. And a happy you is someone you missed and are, once again, proud to be.

4. He was one guy closer to finding the right one.

Even if Mr. Right doesn't magically appear to wipe away your ice cream stains immediately after your break up, he is now one step closer to finding you. Now that this loser of a guy is off your back, you're focused on what is making you happy, and you're living that lifestyle you want to be living, Mister Right will be able to see that happy girl. He will fall in love with you exactly the way you want to be seen, and exactly the way you deserve.
