How many of you have a pet at home?
If you are raising your hand, than this article is for you!
I would say the most common pets are fishes, cats and my personal favorite, dogs.
Pets are the corner stone of so many households. Having a family-friendly animal around brings a smile to faces of those in the home.
But how many of you have ever wondered what your pet is thinking about? Of course, dogs and cats can be trained to do certain tasks, having us think they are somewhat aware. With fish, you just watch them swim around all day and eat the food you provide, so little awareness beyond those activities is shown.
However, based on the three dogs I have at home, I have started to think they are smarter than we realize.
Take for instance, whenever you leave the home. If you pay close attention you can see sadness in their eyes. The look is like them saying "Why are you leaving?" The opposite expression occurs when you come home. They jump around, have a smile on there face and seem to be saying "Hi, Hi, welcome back!"
Better than that, one of my dogs will stretch himself out and yawn in a way as if he was saying "Hello" to us.
Crazy right?
You can also see it if there are more than one pet in the home. In time it will seem that the animals have a secret way of communicating with each other in attempts to get whatever it is they are after. My favorite is catching our dogs escaping from the pen outside and when you call for them, they turn around with the look of "Oh sh*t, we got caught." Then they may look back and forth at one another like it was the other's idea, or "this is all your fault."
Think about my examples and the pets you have at home, are there similarities? Or better yet, do you have examples of your own that you can share in the comments?
Anyway, my point in all this is to just point out that our pets are probably a lot smarter than some of us would give them credit for. Next time you are around your pets, pay close attention and try to imagine what they are thinking!
