My best friends and I are queens of not being romantic, it’s true. We are not really even into the mushy making out in the back of the movie theater, especially on Valentine’s Day.
For instance, last year I bought myself flowers from Walmart and was perfectly fine about it. It was great not having to worry about getting someone else something they probably wouldn’t like.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t always have to be you hanging out with your S.O. (significant other), it can be shoving ice cream down your throat or doing what my best friend and I did last year: Going out to dinner alone, just us, and going to see "Fifty Shades of Grey" by ourselves.
It was one of the best ideas we have ever had—we were even shared a drink in the movies—and yes, we used the same straw.
I’m not saying I’ve never had a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day and yeah, it’s nice.
But let’s face it, it’s kind of awkward.
I don’t need someone getting me a big teddy bear they sell for $80 at Walmart.
Oh please.
At least get me something more practical that I can actually use, like mascara.
Really, I’d be happy with just getting chocolate and flowers.
The awkward moment begins with someone showing up at your door carrying all of these overwhelming gifts that you don’t really want and/or need.
Waddling up to your door with an $80 teddy bear that eventually your mom will give away to your neighbors.
Then they take you to the same restaurant where you’ll see everyone you know and then take you to the movie theater where, again, you see everyone you know. (And let’s face it, you don’t have to worry about someone getting you red roses when you really like daisies).
Then you go to the movies and they insist on paying so you cannot really get all of the candy and popcorn you want (which is another reason my favorite date is my best friend).
She and I go to Walmart before the movies and smuggle five different boxes of candy into the theater and have no shame about it. Then at the movies we eat a bunch of popcorn and all our candy and drink a large Coke so we can get unlimited refills, (which is a great method of saving $, btw).
Valentine’s Day isn’t a pointless holiday to go out on, unless you like PDA and watching it.
If you do Valentine’s Day the right way, it’s a lot of fun and it’s about ~real~ love. Not the kind that dumps you over text message four months later, or eats all of your fruit roll ups and doesn’t throw the box away, leaving you with a broken heart when you go to get a snack.
You just have to be looking for the right kind of love, love from your friends, love from your family.
The best part of V-Day is all the hearts, different shades of white, pink and red wines and VS underwear.
OH and chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Or you know, different candy like Sour Patch Kids, or gummy worms (which are my personal favorite)
But honestly, the best thing about THIS Valentine’s Day, "The Walking Dead" IS BACK.
For Valentine’s Day this year, my best friends and I will probably do the same thing we did last year, hit up El Rods, eat a lot of food, then go to the movies or do something fun together.
