Would you rather have a million “friends” or two or three real friends that you trust wholeheartedly? Freshman year of high school starts out, for most people, with a ton of those “friends." Everyone is trying to meet each other and figure out their place and friend group. As the four years progress, the groups and cliques become much more defined. There are smaller groups within the big groups and eventually those millions of friends dwindle into a few real best friends. By senior year, you know who these people are.
These are the girls that are there for you no matter what. They know all of your secrets, accept your weirdness, stand up for you and don’t always laugh with you, but at you. Seriously, could you have done high school without them?
From sleepovers, venting sessions, trespassing buildings and getting caught by the police, pointless drama, party fun (and party failures), and breakups to, of course, everything you did during your senior weekend after prom…let’s just say there’s a lot more to fill in those gaps in between. Imagine not having those girls by your side. None of those memories would exist and you would just be a picture in someone’s yearbook.
You raised each other because you learned and went through life together. All four years of high school fly by and they become one of the most memorable times in your life. Think about it, how often do you hear your parents talk about their high school friends or hanging out with them today? Your high school best friends are the ones that were there when you needed to walk a few laps around the halls to avoid class, someone to eat lunch with, and most importantly, be completely weird and crazy with. But of course, the more serious life events occur during this rough stage of growing up. Whatever happened in your life, your best friends were there.
Best friends from high school are different than best friends from college. They hold a different place in your heart for best friends. They are all there for you for different reasons and each relationship is unique in its own way. At the end of the day, the major emerging adult stages took place during your high school years. And you all did it together. The endless memories are some of the best times of your life and moving away for college is hard, but worth it when you do get to see them and now have even more best friends from college.
All of your best friends from high school will be your best friends for life. You basically raised each other through all the ups and downs of high school and adolescence in itself. No matter where life takes you, no matter what college you go to, and no matter how many new faces you meet, you will always remember the girls that yelled at you when you’re too sassy, reprimanded you when you made poor decisions, were by your side while making those decisions, and held your hand when life knocked you down.
