What My Younger Siblings Have Taught Me
Huffington Post

I believe that siblings really are the greatest blessings. Although it may not seem so from time to time (haha), they are the greatest gifts that you could ever have in life. I have learned to appreciate my siblings more and more over the past few years, especially since I’ve been away from them for long periods of time while I’m at school.

I have started to realize how quickly we’re all growing up, especially my younger sisters. They have become so mature and it’s hard for me to believe. They will always be babies in my eyes. I refuse to accept the fact that they are currently in their second and third year of high school. I remember holding them when they were little ones like it was yesterday. They have grown up into such beautiful young ladies, and I am so proud to be their big sister.

Although we’ve had our fair share of arguments and have said some things that we don’t necessarily mean, I care about the two of them more than they will ever know. They are so important to me, and I will continue to try my hardest to be the best role model for them because they deserve nothing but the best.

My sisters have two completely different personalities, and it is because of this that I learned so much and have been able to become a better person myself. They have taught me how to take things lightly and roll with the punches. Since life can get stressful from time to time, especially for a college student, I can always count on them to make me smile and laugh.

They have taught me the importance of having patience. From helping the both of them with their homework to doing their hair and getting yelled at that they don’t like how it looks, I have learned that patience is truly a virtue and that screaming at one another really doesn’t make anything better. I guess they have really pushed me to mature and be the bigger person in certain situations. Although that can be difficult to do, it is always the right thing to do in the end.

Something else that I have learned from my sisters is that there is always room for improvement. Through all of the ups and the downs, I have learned what it truly means to be a big sister which has pushed me to be the best I can possibly be. They motivate me to always be the best version of myself, to be confident, and to act modestly at all times. They are my constant reminders that I am important, that I matter. Something that I will always be grateful for.

Being a big sister has definitely allowed me to gain a new perspective on things and has made me a better person overall. It is definitely the greatest gift I have received because it has given me lifelong friends and has allowed me to grow so much as an individual. Although we have our differences, I know that we will always be there for each other because family comes first and family is forever.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
