The Younger Sibling Linkage

6 Things All Younger Siblings Can Agree On

The younger siblings are the ending piece to every immediate family structure. As a younger sibling, I can attest to the rough, yet memorable life style we all understand. Your older siblings love you deep down inside, but they won't always show it.

Being a younger sibling has prepared me for many obstacles in life. For example, I am currently in college and my first two years involved me sharing a room with another female. Having an older sister and sharing a room with her my whole life has taught me how to co-exist with another person, without me even realizing it.

Here are a couple of things every younger sibling has experienced:

1. Sharing is not optional, it is mandatory.

From the day you are born the youngest child, you signed a contract to share everything you own. Even if your mother did not permit it, you're older siblings always have a way making you share with them anyways. Receiving hand-me-downs is also a way of sharing you are promised from birth. This does not involve clothes only. This involves toys, schools, book bags, and phones, etc.

2. You're the Favorite, so jealousy will occur.

Lets admit it here and now. The youngest child is the favorite. So you older siblings can stop hating. Like I said before the last child is the ending piece to a family structure. The baby, that will always be the baby. They are the last of the bunch and the best is always saved for last.

3. Your older siblings will blame you for all of their parental failures.

My sister still holds a grudge towards me until this day, because when I was three years old, I accidentally told my mother where her candy stash was. I was young and had no idea of the damage I had done, but my sister sure did and she will never let me forget it. Their failures will be your fault sometimes, but you just have to learn to live through it.

4. Older siblings being given authority.

This is the worst case for all younger siblings. The unconscious power that a parent gives to the older sibling can be very dangerous. When left alone, older siblings take advantage of the power they withhold and use it against their younger siblings. This unjust ruling always leads to an unfair solution and sometimes an arguement.

5. Your older siblings mistakes, are lessons for you.

Older siblings are one of our biggest role models. When ever my sisters made a mistake, I learned from it and either tried to avoid it or never do it, especially when it comes to parents. If my sister got in trouble for leaving the TV on at night, you better believe I was never gonna do that.

6. Your older siblings, are the bully that lives with you.

Being the youngest makes you a target for tormenting. Your older siblings live to annoy you especially the ones that were supposed to be the "last child." They make sure they annoy you and bother you, but they won't let anyone else do it.

7. But through it all, your older siblings love you.

I have had a series of ups and downs with all of my sisters, but I wouldn't trade them for the world. My older sisters are my backbones and they look out for me no matter how far apart we are. As a younger sibling we all feel like our older siblings can't stand us sometimes, but they love us to the moon and back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
