7 Reasons It's Great To Be The Younger Sister
Jenna Riech, 2017

There are so many things to say for the past eighteen years. Seven years come between us, but age is just a number. Where to start as there are endless memories, and endless laughs. Let’s start here: thank you.

1. You have a built-in role model.

Thanks to my older sister, I have always had someone to look up to my entire life. Having an older sibling means having someone there to tell you what to do and what not to do. You’re able to learn from your sibling’s mistakes when going throughout life and the different obstacles life throws in our way.

2. You're the favorite (sometimes).

When you watch your older sibling make mistakes, you know what not to do to make your parents mad. When you make less mistakes, you know how to please your parents, therefore, you are the favorite (at the moment).

3. You have a chauffeur.

Until you finally reach the age of 17, in New York at least, you need someone to take you from place to place, and who’s better for the job than your older sibling! If mom or dad aren’t around, your sibling is told to pick you up, clearly, she is your chauffeur.

4. Her closet is your closet.

No matter how old you are, you know there’s always your sibling’s closet to go to. “Where’d you get that shirt?” “Oh, just a place I like to call my sister’s closet.” (Sorry sis, I may or may not have taken a shirt or two in the past, love you though). Who doesn’t love having two closets to go to?

5. She's your go-to.

Whenever something goes wrong in life, the odds your sister probably went through it also are very likely. Your sister knows how to deal with the worst situations and help you out until it’s fixed.

6. She understands family.

There's no one better to laugh at family members with than your sibling. They see your family the same way you do, and understand why you’re cracking a joke at a family event to make it much more bearable.

7. She sets high standards.

There's nothing harder than trying to live up to your sister’s accomplishments. My sister was the athlete of the family, as well as the brains. Everything I have done in life has been an attempt to reach the high standards she set, and let me tell you they are VERY high.

Thank you for being my rock, shoulder to cry on, and everything in between. I love you even when I don't say it, big sis.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
