When you think of New York City what do you think of?
Do you think of the song "Empire State of Mind?" Does it make you think of the iconic movie 'Home Alone?' Or maybe even Taylor Swift's song "Welcome to New York?"
To me, it makes me think of the place where everyone can be who they want to be without the fear of being judged.
In 2017, the population of NYC was 8.623 million people. I don't know about you but that's a ton of people. I don't think I've ever even seen that many people in my 22 years of being on this earth.
Regardless of what comes to mind when you think of NYC, have you ever had the dream of traveling there?
The first time I visited NYC was about four years ago and I knew I was in for a trip of a lifetime! I had never left Florida so the idea of being in a huge city was thrilling to me. Long story short, since that very first time four years ago, I have gone back two more times!
I think that New York is a place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It is one thing to see New York through movies and music videos but a completely different thing to experience through your own five senses.
One of my favorite things about visiting the city is that no two days are the same. Whether you're traveling by Uber or taking the subway, if you pay attention to your surroundings you will notice that even if you take the same route to and from your hotel, you will always notice something or someone different.
Another one of my favorite things about the city is how fast it is.
One thing you do not want to do is stop in the middle of the sidewalk to look at Google Maps on your phone.
Unlike Tallahassee, NYC is filled with people who are on their daily commute to and from work. I love seeing the number of people that are walking throughout the city and knowing that every one of them has their own story to tell. Not only is the city filled with beautiful skylines and skyscrapers, but it is also filled with a lot of history.
If you ever get the chance to make a trip to the city, do it! I promise you, you will not regret it. If your experience is anything like mine, you'll realize that you can never run out of things to do in the city and you will find yourself coming back for more.
Pro tip: Visit the city during as many seasons of the year as you can!
