Congratuatlions! You are reading this article because you want to write for your team, but you are still on the edge about it! I started on my team in May and at first I really only did it to get better with my writing! I mean my best friend asked me to join and honestly, I was very skeptical too! I mean I hope I have gotten better with it since than, but now I am enjoying the part of also being a leader on the team and writing every week! Yes, sometimes that can be frustrating and cause some hair pulling motions, but I have enjoyed the friendships I have made and the people I talk to now! So now I want to talk to YOU (yes, you reading this article) about why you should join your chapter on your campus and how it benefits you! Here are some reasons why joining an Odyssey team could be beneficial to you!
Writing is something you really like to do!
You love to write about anything! You get an idea in your head and it sparks something in you to write that funny or serious article about an experience you know others can relate to!
You want to share EVERYTHING!
Okay probably not everything under the kitchen sink, but you just have an urge to give advice to those you do not even know! You probably don't want to tell some to give up either...or maybe you would because they need to give up on an idea or a person! This also just means that if you feel like you don't have a voice in something-you have now in this platform!
You get a fresh perspective on different levels!
Just think about it - you are now apart of a world where no one person thinks or writes alike! We have have all ready the "Open letter to.." or "You know you are ___when..." and we can read those all day long! YOU can write any of those to show people how your life really is and how to help people understand who you are and where you grew up! Or help other explain to their friends that their ways are not crazy at all!
You are meeting people you would have never met on campus!
This is so true! Most of my team members probably would have never met if they did not meet through this team! I even remember when my freshman group met up their first week and felt relieved that they had friends to talk to since we had been talking during the summer!
You will find out who you are without knowing it!
I cannot tell you how many times writers have told me they love being apart of this team not because of writing, but because they started finding out who they are as people! Once you start writing out your feelings and opinions you, it opens up a part of you that you allowed to blossom into the confident person you want to be! You will make bolder decisions than you would have ever done before!
You will never feel alone once you join!
Once you get to talk a certain group of people or start talking to them every once in awhile - you become family! It is just a bond you create with people you speak with every week and see them grow each and every week. I sit down with most of my writers at dinner or lunch just to talk about the week. We share accomplishments and share what is upsetting us!
Whether you are touching millions of peoples or maybe just ten, Odyssey is just not about only writing. You join a team which means you join a family which means you work together to make things work for each other! You can write every week or do a video every week! You can edit articles or help share them on social media platforms! You can help bring new people on the team or just simply share your ideas-you are joining something so much more than just a writing platform.
