You Might Be From Arkansas If...

So when I was 11 years old, my family moved from Atlanta, Georgia to a small town in Arkansas. After I graduated high school I decided to go to college in Missouri. Since I have been in college, my friends have teased me for being from Arkansas by using all of the Arkansas myths. So, if you're from Arkansas, here are some things you might always hear.

1. Incest Jokes

If you're from Arkansas you hear this all the time. People ask if your cousins are dating or if you have ever dated your cousin. Which, I don't even think that is legal. This is something that people asked me my first week in college. They also ask if people actually marry their cousins. Of course, I told them that's disgusting and not true. But for some reason this is the cliche' I get asked about the most.

2. We Only Listen To Country Music

Although I know a lot of people in Arkansas that listen to country music, it's not all they listen to. I personally hate country music. But there a lot of people that do like it. However, it is not all people in Arkansas listen to. We listen to a lot of different varieties of music.

3. We Don't Wear Shoes

Yes we wear shoes! You can't go places without shoes! Every gas station and restaurant in my hometown requires people to wear shoes. We do not just walk around without shoes on and wear overalls. But for some reason, people think that we do. We do wear shoes, I promise you.

4. People Always Ask About Walmart

Yes, Arkansas is the home of Walmart. Do we all know the history of Walmart? No. No we do not. It just happens to be the store on every corner. But yeah, we get a lot of questions about Walmart. I couldn't tell you anything about Walmart. I just shop there.

5. If You're From Arkansas, Why Don't You Have An Accent?

People don't understand that there are different parts of Arkansas, so not everyone has an accent. But people do ask us about it. Personally, I do not have one. Well, unless I get angry, then I have a really thick southern accent. But I'm just weird like that.

So if you're from Arkansas you most likely have heard these things. Although it can get annoying at times, just remember that people just think they are being funny. So just try to laugh a little and remember that where you are from is actually pretty cool. I love Arkansas. It's home for me. And I am proud to say I'm from there, even if I do have to deal with these myths from other people.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
