You Know You're A Pre-Nursing Major When...

The struggle is all too real.

If you are a pre-nursing major, you can definitely relate to all of the below.

The library is your second home.

"Where are you? I never see you anymore!" At this point, you just need to put up a sign in your room that says "if lost, please check the library" because it's guaranteed that you can be found nose-deep in a biology book with stacks of notebooks scattered across the table.

Stress and anxiety are your primary emotions.

Whether you're stressing about a test or anxious about checking your grades, it seems like there's always something to be freaked out about. There's such a strict timeline for nursing, and one bad grade in a class could mess everything up, but no pressure, am I right? WRONG.

Making your class schedule requires extreme precision.

Because of all the science classes with labs that you have to take, making a class schedule can get really annoying really fast. As soon as you think you've made the perfect schedule, you realize that one lab interferes with another, and you're back to square one. Can I pay someone to do this for me?

Questioning your major is a daily occurence.

"Am I going to make it?" "Am I smart enough for this?" "I can't do this." Some days when we've reached our breaking point, our mind takes over and we worry we won't be able to make it through. Times like that are when best friends and ice cream really come in handy.

Coffee is your beverage of choice.

You didn't even know you liked coffee (hell, you still might not even like it), but now it's basically all you drink. Without it, there's no way you could function on the few hours of sleep you get. Can someone please tell me why coffee IVs aren't a thing?

Having to enjoy your social life while you can.

You're not even in the nursing program yet and it's already getting hard to do the things you want to on the weekend. You've heard enough horror stories from current nursing students that it's only going to get worse, so you have to enjoy your freedom now. For 2 years, your idea of fun will have to be late-night study sessions in the library. #turndownforwhat

You realize that this is only the beginning,

The nursing program hasn't even technically begun yet, and this is supposed to be the easy part. Sh*t's about to get real and real fast.

But you know you're going to have a career in one of the most rewarding fields.

Nursing is a great field to go into because of the variety of specialties and the high demand for nurses. Nobody said it was going to be easy, but I can promise you it will all be worth it. So to all my fellow nursing students out there, we got this.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
