There are a few objects that are associated with colorguard that guard girls will never forget about once they see them in the Some of the objects include glitter, hairspray, and music.
1. There is never too much glitter.
You are constantly surrounded by glitter and sequins. Whether it be on uniforms, make-up, or in your hair, there is never too much glitter. Even after seasons of guard you still end up finding glitter everywhere! Whether it be in your bag, makeup bag, car, or room, glitter is always haunting you.
2. There is no question on whether or not you need more hairspray.
If your hair isn't glued to your head there is not enough hairspray. You might as well wear a helmet. Your hair should last the whole day without a single strand of hair moving from your head. There is never too much hairspray. Once you find the perfect can of hairspray that actually makes your hair rock solid, you use that hairspray for the rest of your colorguard career. When you get done with colorguard and you aren't doing it anymore, every time you smell that certain brand of hairspray it makes you think back on all the times that you used it in guard.
3. You look at unique uniforms in a different way.
You are used to not knowing what your uniform looks like when you get them. Usually, they are very unique, and can range on a scale of lace dresses to space alien like suits. Colorguard has some crazy uniforms. The crazier the uniforms the better. In colorguard, you try to see which guard has the craziest uniform. the guard with the craziest and coolest wins.
4. You get your hands on anything you can spin.
You might be bored or you might just not have a flag at a certain time but you are always spinning something. From broomsticks to pencils there is always something in your hands to spin. You may not know that you are spinning anything, it becomes a natural habit.
5. You correspond certain songs with certain performances by other schools.
Every guard girl has their favorite guard show. They know what song was played for their favorite show and every time that song plays they can picture the show in their head. They relive that moment when they first saw that show. Even years later guard girls can still picture the show and the first moment.
6. You know what it's like to have a big family .
You have more family members than ever before. Every guard girl (or guy) is like a sister or a brother to you and you act just like siblings would. You might not always get along but down inside you all love each other. You spend a lot of time together and share your ups and downs together. When people graduate it feels like there is a part of you family missing. There is not another sport like colorguard.
