20 Tell-Tale Signs You Go To The University of San Diego

20 Tell-Tale Signs You Go To The University of San Diego

USD, University of Spoiled Daughters: the small Catholic one, beacon of light on the top of the hill. Four years of your life on the small campus with the same tight-knit group of people. It feels a little like high school at times, honestly. Good thing you live at the beach and can get away. Kind of. Here are 20 relatable USD experiences.

1. "Yes, I've been here before, Stacked."

And yes, I know how to use the iPad.

2. You have a strong opinion on your local burrito joint.

JVs, Matador, Sara's, Lucha Libre.

3. "Wow, you go to USC? Fight on!"

No, it's the small catholic one in San Diego. No, not UCSD or SDSU.

4. You know more acronyms than building names.

From the IPJ to the SLP to the JCP, and you may not even know what they stand for. Oops.

5. You have a preference on where you buy your coffee on campus.

It's exponentially better on one side of campus than the other, and you constantly wonder why the "bad side" tastes like it's spiked with alcohol

6. You were confused by the new song on the bell tower.

The first time you heard it you were like, "Wait I know this, why is it so familiar?" Until you realized it's the Alma Mater.

7. Dead hours are spent napping or tanning.

8. You haven't had Friday classes since sophomore year.

Because you're probably a business major.

9. You had Shack Attack on speed dial.

Back in my day, we didn't have Uber.

10. Your waiters question your identity.

Going to dinner with your now of-age friends is difficult because everyone's ID is from a different state. Literally.

11. It's freezing when the temperature drops below 70.

And you're sure to complain about any weather that's less than perfect.

12. You feel incompetent when you only have one major.

Because everyone else is double majoring in different schools of study while picking up three minors.

13. You drive a white Jetta.

Pretty much part of your application requirements.

14. "Where did you end up?" "Jamaica"

Standard conversation that doesn't phase you.

15. You have a place to crash in Big Bear, Havasu, and Palm Springs.

Either you or one of your friends has a house there.

16. You actually thank the tram driver.

Which isn't customary elsewhere, surprisingly.

17. You get lost in Carmel.

Even if you lived there. And you know full well that you're going to die in a fire there and it will be a Pompeii repeat.

18. You don't understand why the school keeps redoing establishments that were fine.

First Paloma, then Tu Merc then the Bookstore (which can't even store books), and all have become significantly harder to navigate.

19. You're still friends with the people from your hall freshman year.

No matter where you lived on campus, you were pretty much forced to befriend those who lived near you. And you're still pretty close with them too.

20. "Mijo/a."

Warms your heart every time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
