I find myself saying this phrase to my friends all of the time. I think one of the main problems with our generations is that we are too independent. Don't get me wrong, being independent is a great trait to have and aspire to have, but there is a fine line. A lot of people feel that admitting that we are struggling is a sign of weakness and it almost seems as though we are failing. Admitting that we are not doing okay is a hard thing to do, but it is something everyone goes through.
Let's be honest, we are all not happy 100% of the time. Being happy all of the time would be completely miserable, to be honest. There is no excitement or growth in that. The down times or low points in life that we experience is what makes us adaptable, relatable, and allows us to grow the most. So let's get one thing straight – life is hard and we cannot go through it alone, independently all of the time. We all have friends and family who love and care about us, and that we can lean on. UTILIZE friends and family. They want to help and they want what is best for us.
The main thing college and growing up in general has taught me is that I will probably never have my s**t together completely. Life is going to throw new obstacles at me all the time, I am going to have breakdowns, and I am going to want to crawl in my bed and do nothing but watch Netflix. But guess what? THAT’S OKAY! It happens to all of us. This does not make us any less of a person, it does not make us a failure, and it definitely does not make us weak. Some of the strongest leaders in history or in our personal lives had rough days and days that they wanted to give up, but it is how we overcome these obstacles that show our true strength.
People need to swallow their pride and show more vulnerability, because we learn best from others and their failures and successes. Yes, I know vulnerability is scary, but without it we cannot reach our full potential. We live in a generation and world where everything has to be perfect, but once we realize that being perfect all of the time is unrealistic then we could accomplish so much more.
