Today's day and age has been about remaining what society wants us to be. If we don't fit into the mold, we get thrown away. But you know what's interesting? When we look at our history books, the people we remember are the ones who were true to themselves and didn't care about the social norms.
Let's face it: the social norm motivates us to be mediocre. Never be ahead of the pack, and most definitely don't fall behind. But did you know every wolf in the pack has a special place for just them? Not all wolves can be the alpha male; you'd have an unruly mess of a pack if everyone tried to be a leader. Society is just like the human body, all parts have crucial roles, and without them, it can't survive. The world needs different kinds of people, not just Steph Currys and Adeles. Life is bigger than being popular. So what if you can't sing or play basketball? Maybe your purpose is to help people. Maybe it's to teach. It could be to make delicious meals for people to enjoy, or to write complex math problems that will change the way we think. Never listen to people who say you aren't beautiful, or that you aren't good enough, or that you're weird. People aren't accustomed to seeing such great qualities in a human.
Strive to be unique. What's wrong with being weird? Every mind is immensely creative. We should be encouraging each and every person to be thinking of new ideas. Be bold with your creativity. Share what's on your mind with friends and family. Every mind thinks differently than the next. By sharing your ideas, people can work together to do amazing things. By being unique, you get to do what makes you happy, and only you know what makes you most happy. Don't let other's false judgments halt your happiness. Wear the clothes you want to wear. Make friends with people of common interests. When someone calls you weird, it simply means they haven't seen it before. You are something new the world has never seen, and that's a good thing.
Always look forward in life. Exceed in yourself. In every movie I have ever seen, the protagonist becomes the hero only when they believe in themselves. Take Harry Potter, for example: he didn't take down Voldemort until he found confidence in himself. I find that life always has a purpose, and to find your purpose in life, you must find your passion. Go out and try new experiences. Meet new people. Travel to a foreign country. Learn. Discovering your passion becomes astronomically easier when you stumble upon it rather than trying to guess without experiencing the world.
There are people at the same stage as you all over the globe, attempting to find themselves and where they fit in for the future. What I’ve come to learn since leaving high school and beginning adulthood is that I cannot predict the future. I know I will come across many hardships as well as many high points in my life. My goal is to find my moral values and how I want to live my life, so when the hardships roll in, I can feel confident in making decisions that represent my true self.
Believe in whatever makes the most sense to you. There isn't one person alive today who knows what happens when we die, so believe what makes sense to you rather than follow something people tell you to believe. What I do know is that once death happens, that's it. So why not take the short amount of time we spend alive and kicking on Earth to live, love, and enjoy what life gives to us? Life gives us options and opportunities. What we do with them is how our life will end up. If you want to live a dangerous, on-the-edge, exciting life, then go out and do it. We have the choice to do anything we want, so I say live life how you want to live it.
You do you.
