Are you kind of iffy on your major? Do you love Disney? Do you love your major and love Disney?
Boy, do I have some news for you.
College students, yes you, can work for the Walt Disney Company! You might be saying, "but Hannah, I'm just a college student, I can't do that!" Haha, oh you have so much to learn.
The Disney College Program is an internship through Disney that college students can attend and get college credit! You get to work for a huge company and network with some amazing people and get chances to do amazing things. Eastern Michigan University offers six credit hours, and that, my friends, is considered going to school part-time, so financial aid is still there!
There are so many different roles to choose from and you can find that list here and so much more information about the specifics here at: http://cp.disneycareers.com
I recently got back from working for Disney, and unfortunately, I had to leave early due to the fact that I am a complete klutz and broke my foot! (Lol oops.)
Let me tell you about the program!
For the Walt Disney World college program, you can choose either Spring or Fall. Spring is from January-May or you can apply for Spring Advantage and be in Disney from January-August. The Fall program is August-January or Fall Advantage May-January.
You work—a lot. Depending on your role (you can choose anything from Quick Service Food and Beverage to Character Performer), you will get some crazy hours. But, when you have a day or a morning off, you can go to the parks for FREE! I totally went to Magic Kingdom a lot—maybe too much.
I was an Attractions Cast Member at the lovely Hollywood Studios! Sunset Boulevard was my home and so was Rock N' Roller Coaster and Fantasmic! Working in attractions is really hard if you don't know how to multitask. I had some really tough days, but having the most amazing guests come through your line is what makes it worth it.
Rock N' Roller Coaster has the tallest height requirement, and when kids aren't tall enough they usually cry and are really sad about not being able to ride. This little princess came to me to see if she was tall enough, but she wasn't. I was prepared for full-on meltdown, but she was like "Oh okay, maybe next year!" and then skipped back to her family. I had to go and give her a hug, a sticker, and a limo pass for when she was tall enough because I was so happy that she was so okay with it.
I wish I could say everything about my role but Disney is full of magic. It is my duty to preserve the magic. I loved every minute of my program. There are hard days, and trust me, sometimes you'll want to quit, but, once you see that family with looks of just pure and genuine happiness, it will make it all worth it.
It is your lucky day! You can apply NOW for the Spring Disney College Program!
