I pass a Taco Bell about five times a day when it's light outside. As I pass by the little fast food Mexican restaurant, I don't think anything of it. The idea of going into one of these before nightfall rarely ever crosses my mind. But for some reason, when the dark creeps upon us, and alcohol is in our system, nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing is more glorious than eating Taco Bell.
Why? Why is it that Taco Bell has stolen the hearts and taste buds of drunk college students across America?
- Maybe it's because there is almost nothing like it. Taco Bell barely has any competition. Mexican fast food restaurants are not very common.
- Maybe it's because of the price. Taco Bell keeps their prices low and affordable; so that you can use your last few dollars that you didn't spend at the bar on some cheesy fiesta potatoes.
- Maybe because it's open so late into the night. It is very dependable. We can always count on it being open when we need it most.
- Maybe the reason is that it's just the norm. You'll find tons of people you know doing the same exact thing after going out. It's pretty much social hour inside (if you opt out of the drive thru).
While reflecting on past times at Taco Bell late night, I can't help but to remember all of the strangers I have met. It could be the girl I stood behind in line that became my best friend for the night, or the man behind me that made sure the whole restaurant knew that his crunch wrap supreme was, "ON POINT!" Taco Bell has never failed to allow me to form not-so-lasting friendships, so I thank them for that.
Young adults are willing to go to whatever lengths to get some Taco Bell after a night out. Some may cash in on their favors, while some promise to "owe ya one!" Some may beg and plead for a ride, while some will just make the long journey of a walk. It doesn't matter how they get it, as long as by the end of the night, they have finished their cheesy, spicy, and downright delicious Taco Bell meal.
So, Taco Bell, keep up the good work, because clearly, you are doing something right.
