10 Yoga Poses You Can Do From The Comfort Of Your Own Home That Will Ease Your Anxiety And Stress

I recently started doing yoga. I used to think it wasn't much of a workout so I never bothered with it. Now, I do it almost every day. There are a bunch of different types of yoga and many different poses that help with a variety of things. Other than exercise, I use yoga for meditation and to help calm my anxiety down. So, here's a list of poses that help me with my anxiety and stress. Also, peep my pup helping me to relieve stress during my yoga practice.

Easy Pose / Sukhasana

Personal Photo

This is called the easy pose for a reason. All you do is sit "criss-cross applesauce" and reflect. This is a great way to start your yoga practice and get yourself in the right mindset.

Child's Pose / Balasana

Child's pose is another very easy position. It helps stretch multiple parts of the body while resting. It's a great pose to do some meditation in.

Cow Pose / Bitilasana

Personal Photo

This pose goes along with the cat pose. Many practices put the cow and cat pose together since it's the same position. The cow pose acts as a massage throughout the spine and stomach.

Cat Pose / Marjaryasana

Like the cow pose, this also gives the spine and stomach a massage. Both the cat and cow poses are great for beginners because it's very easy. Doing the two together can be very relaxing.

Standing Forward Bend / Uttanasana

Personal Photo

This pose not only helps anxiety, but it also helps digestion and stretches your hamstrings and hips. For this pose, the goal is to keep your legs straight but, it's ok to keep them bent especially the first few times doing it.

Upward-Facing Dog Pose / Urdhva Mukha Svanasana

Personal Photo

In this pose, you really open up your chest and your heart. For me, it lifts pressure that anxiety gives me out of my chest.

Bridge Pose / Setu Bandhasana

Personal Photo

This pose calms the brain and reduces anxiety. It is good for digestion and stomach problems. This pose is one of my favorites because it helps me listen to my breathing and relax.

Corpse Pose / Savasana

Personal Photo

This pose is probably the easiest of them all. All you have to do is lay there and listen to your breathing. I love doing this to end my yoga practice and recollect my thoughts.

Happy Baby Pose / Ananda Balasana

Personal Photo

This pose may be a little difficult to get into but once you get it, you can really sink into the position. This pose is great for the spine and also is a great hip and leg stretch. Once you're sunk into this position, stay there for a few seconds just clearing your head of stress.

Extended Puppy Pose / Uttana Shishosana

Personal Photo

This is another pose I love to sink into. It stretches your spine and shoulders. When I get stressed, my shoulders tense up so this pose is great after a long stressful day.

These poses help me daily to unwind from a stressful day. Whether it's a long day at work or in class, these poses will loosen your mind and body up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
