There are a bunch of different kinds of Christmas people out there, ranging from Scrooge to Buddy the Elf. For those not familiar, a description of these two ends of the spectrum are as follows:
Scrooge: You don't like Christmas at all and wish it didn't even exist. You've gone to great lengths to avoid any sort of Christmas nonsense thrown your way. Bah Humbug!
Buddy the Elf: Christmas is on your mind 24/7, even in the middle of the summer. You love all things green, red and covered in snow, and you wish it could be Christmas every day!
In the middle of these extremes lies a group of people who claim to love Christmas, but only after Thanksgiving. They are known to say things like, "Ugh, Christmas music playing on the radio before Thanksgiving? No, thank you." or "It is way too soon for Macy's to be putting up its Christmas decorations. That is just ridiculous!"
To these people, I would just like to say, "Hey, what's the big deal?" What's the big deal in us elves expressing our excitement for the upcoming Christmas season a little early? We are in our element here so let us live! You don't see us subtweeting you when we see you eating a turkey leg with gravy in the middle of July. If you're happy, I'm happy. Amirite?
I am not by any means suggesting that Thanksgiving isn't an important holiday. If I could have my family's Thanksgiving potatoes for every meal I think I would be able to single-handedly obtain world peace. When we're playing Christmas music on the radio in November, our goal is not to overshadow the wonderful occasion of Thanksgiving. It is simply to get people into the spirit of the holidays where everything truly is merry and bright.
To me, the Christmas season is all about spreading joy and cheer (as cheesy as that may sound). But that's a little hard to do when us Holiday-heads are being bombarded by Christmas haters. What is so wrong with the addition of a few twinkling lights here or a couple of pine-scented candles there? To holiday fanatics like me, my enjoyment comes from the look on other people's faces when they drive through a neighborhood lit up to the nines or when they open up a gift that will make them smile the biggest smile.
If it were up to me, Christmas season would be every season because it seems to be the one time of year where people find enjoyment simply by making people happy. I think that if the season of giving was a continuous thing, the world would truly be a better place. So I'm here to tell you "Christmas only after Thanksgiving" people that I am #sorrynotsorry if I'm blasting my Mariah Carey holiday playlist at three in the afternoon on a beautiful September day. I wish a happy Thanksgiving feast to all, and to all, a good night.
If you know any Christmas haters who might need a little convincing, share this with them to spread the season of giving.
