Year In Photos 2016

With the year getting close to the end, and Christmas just around the corner, there is a lot to be thankful for. So I thought for this installment of the Happy Listener, it could be a reflection of my year in music.

Now 2016 was a huge year for me. I found my passion for photography, especially music photography. If you told me a year ago that I would be photographing some of my favorite bands, I would not have believed you. I am incredibly blessed and grateful for everything that has happened this year with my photography career and cannot wait to see what happens in 2017!

So with that, here are 16 of my favorite photos as a music photographer in 2016!

1. Judah and the Lion April 2016 - My first time ever shooting a concert. I was incredibly nervous and had no idea what I was doing. But after this show, I was in love.

2. The Struts April 2016 - The British rock band that has so much energy and keeps classic rock vibes with modern twist that is impossible not to enjoy.

3. My Morning Jacket April 2016 - Jim James the legend himself. I was starstruck while in the photo pit.

4. Wilderado August 2016 - If you don't know this band you need to check them out! They make v tight music, go give them a listen!

5,6. Jamestown Revival August 2016 - Had to add an extra for this one. I had way too much fun shooting one of my favorite bands in Denver, Colorado.

7. Judah and the Lion October 2016 - round 2 with these guys in Memphis. This was a "secret" show as a kick off for Moon River Fest.

8-11. Moon River Fest - Getting to document this Music Festival was an absolute blast! I took over 2,000 photos during this festival, but these 4 were my favorite. (Colony House) (Penny and Sparrow) (The Oh Hellos).

12. Judah and the Lion November 2016 - Round 3 in OKC in a tiny venue. They always manage to turn their shows into dance parties(not mad about it).

13. Reliant K November 2016 - Quite nostalgic, dancing to Sadie Hawkins Dance brought back middle school memories. This show made me feel like a kid again.

14. Switchfoot November 2016 - Seeing Jon Foreman perform was amazing and guitar symbolized an incredible message. Those words carry a lot of meaning. Thanks for the reminder.

15. Judah and the Lion December 2016 - Round 4. These guys never get old. Don't know how so much energy can come out of one band, but they bring it night after night. Can't wait to keep working with them in the future.

16. Local Natives December 2016 - This is probably my favorite photo I've ever taken. Local Natives puts on the best show I've ever seen and I'm glad I was there to capture it.

So there is it is! My favorite photos from 2016. As I said I cannot wait to see what 2017 will offer. Still dream chasing to become a tour photographer for bands. Thanks to everyone who supports my work and is constantly giving me encouragement to keep chasing this dream of mine.

As always,

Happy Listening

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
