How Writing For The Odyssey Has Positively Impacted My Life
The Odyssey Online

The Odyssey is a networking system among colleges allowing students to express their opinions and ideas through words and sharing it to the world. This networking allows us to grow as writers, while allowing us to express our thoughts to the community. Becoming a writer for the odyssey has been one of the best things I have ever done. I have written five reasons why writing for the Odyssey has made a positive impact on my life.

1. It forces me to use my creative brainpower.

Trying to make your articles something everyone wants to read and to get your article streaming every week can be a challenge. Writer’s block is no joke at times when writing for the Odyssey. This challenge though has allowed me to become a very creative thinker. It allows me to explore my brain and express my thoughts. To avoid those situations I have created a small bucket of premade ideas to help me out when my brain goes blank.

2. It has helped me grow as a writer.

Being a student in college I find myself drowning with paper after paper. With the help of Odyssey I can now nail a paper within just a week, so the stress of papers have slowly faded away.

3. Helps prepare me with my major.

Time management is an important tactic in being successful with being a member of the Odyssey. Learning how to handle your time is so important, especially as you move up in your college career. You never want to fall behind with work. Having the Odyssey in my life gave me a sense of time management and I know longer stress about due dates. It has shine some light on my Public Relations and marketing future. If you are a communication, English or journalism major I suggest looking into becoming a writer for The Odyssey.

4. I get to express my thoughts on things that are important to me.

Having my voice heard through the words of my writing makes me extremely happy. I love to talk about absolutely anything. Whether it is relationship advice, news about endangered species or experiences I have been through I love to express my feelings and emotions through The Odyssey.

5. I love to write.

Writing is something I have always been good at there is a place in my brain where words and thoughts just click together and I write and write and I just can’t stop! Anyone who loves to write understands the feeling. Ever since fourth grade I had a passion for writing. Some people have a passion for math, or sports my love is with writing. You are able to display your inner thoughts through words. It is incredible!

With that being said..

Writing has always been a thing that has come fairly easy to me. Having The Odyssey in my life has shaped me into an even better writer than I was before. I am not paid to write for them, but to me I am still earning the value of expression and knowledge. I am able to be myself through the words that I type. That is something money can’t buy. Whether or not you are a strong writer I believe everyone should try it out and apply you truly get a great experience out of it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
